Director Myazaki will not retire.

It was clarified that Director Myazaki withdrew his retirement and he is preparing his next work by the comment of the persons concerned on February 27. Director Myazaki made a great hit and earned about 10,800,000,000 yen by "The Princess Mononoke". "The Princess Mononoke" won the "Japanese movie prize" in the Mainichi movie contest this year.

Yasuyoshi Tokuma,the president of Tokuma Publishing suggested that Director Myazaki is not retirment at the commendation. It is said that the work which Director Myazaki next makes that the theme is the 21st century, and treated an environmental problem and the explosion of population etc. (from the article)

　アニメ映画「もののけ姫」で興行収入約180億円、観客動員数約1300万人という大ヒットを放った宮崎駿監督（57）の次回作は、環境悪化などの進んだ21世紀がテーマになることが27日、分かった。宮崎氏については引退説も取りざだされたが、前作で製作総指揮を務めた徳間康快・徳間書店社長（76）は引退説を否定し、次回作の製作費は「もののけ姫」の約23億5000万円を上回る30億〜50億円の超大作になるとの見通しを明らかにした。
　米国の映画会社ディズニー社と協力し、全世界に公開する予定という。【長尾真輔】

　宮崎氏は昨年3月、「もののけ姫」の製作発表の席で「これで最後になってもいい」と発言し、"引退宣言"と話題を呼んだ。しかし、徳間社長は「作品作りで疲れたということを言ったまで。これだけファンが支持してくれるし、『やめないで』という手紙も届いている。生涯やりますよ。宮崎さんも『引退はしません』と明言してくれた」と引退説を否定した。

　宮崎氏は「もののけ姫」で日本の中世を舞台に森に住む神々と人間との戦いを描いた。次回作は一転して21世紀の末来が舞台となる見込み。徳間社長は「『もののけ姫』では日本を視野に入れたが、今度は環境の悪化、テロリズム、地震、疫病、人口爆発などを抱えた21世紀をテーマにして、世界的な作品にしたい」と話している。

　徳間書店は1984年に宮崎氏の監督作品「風の谷のナウシカ」以来、「となりのトトロ」(88年)「紅の豚」(92年)など一連の作品を製作している。「もののけ姫」は配給収入（映画会社の収入）興行収入（入場料の総額）、観客動員数の国内での映画の記録をすべて塗り替えた。昨年8月から10月に香港と台湾で公開された。欧米諸国でも上映が予定されている。(当該記事より)

Mera Yoshikazu who became famous by the theme song of "The Princess Mononoke" will sing the theme song of the television animation program. KINEMA JUNPOH, the movie magazine of Japan announced best 10 of the movie which had been opened to the public in Japan last year.

Aas a result, UNAGI was chosen as the first place of a Japanese movie "The Princess Mononoke" was chosen as the second place. And, as a result of the vote of the reader, "The Princess Mononoke" was chosen in the first place, UNAGI was the second place. (extracts of the article)
