EVA-00 is the prototype of EVA, thus being the first ever made, deriving from the 1st Angel. It's main purpose is moreover testing and research for EVA advancements than true combat.. At episode 6(REI 2), it was nearly destroyed by the 5th Angel during combat. After repairs it's armor was re-painted blue from it's usual yellow, as well as additional shoulder pads. EVA-00 self destructed on it's pilot's insistence to save NERV and Tokyo-3 from an Angel, buying time for Third Children Ikari Shinji to pilot EVA-01. EVA-00 as well as his pilot is avenged as the Angel is annihilated by EVA-01
