The following list catalogs every Gundam plastic model kit released to date, all of them produced by Bandai. With 400 kits released to date, Gundam plastic models constitute an industry unto themselves; they even have a nickname, "Gunpra" (itself derived from another bit of Japanese shorthand, "pramo" as in "plastic model"). The spellings used here are those given on the model boxes (in order to minimize confusion), and may not match those used elsewhere on this Web site.
Fortunately, Gundam plastic models are frequently re-released. With few exceptions - limited-edition metallic versions, the Gundam character collection, the Z Gundam editions of selected MSV kits - they're seldom out of stock for long. If your local hobby store doesn't have a good supply, check out the ads in your favorite anime magazine or see the online vendors listed on our links page.

Mobile Suit Gundam
The classic model series was launched in July 1980, six months after the original series was off the air. These kits required glue and paint, and often suffered from poor mobility and proportioning. Only the smaller, cheaper kits in the line had visible series numbers.
The final five kits in the series - four mobile suits and the G-Armor, all in 1/250 scale - used a color molding technique variously referred to as "System Injection" or "iro-pra," which combined different colors of plastic on the same parts tree (sometimes even on the same piece). While near-perfect color fidelity can be achieved simply by grouping parts of the same color on the same tree, this color molding technique makes it much more likely that the end result will present the proper colors without the use of paint. Though these first color-molded kits appeared in 1983, Bandai didn't use the technology again until 1987's Char's Counterattack series.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Mobile Suit Variation
Though they required glue and paint, like the original model line, these mobile suit variants were more detailed and better proportioned (apart from the squatty Zaku) than the classic kits. This popular line was released from April 1983 to December 1984, and the Perfect Gundam models that appeared at the end of the series were the first Gundam kits equipped with "polycaps" - rubber washers that protect the joints from wear and tear.

Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team
All kits in this series are designated "High Grade" - in some cases for no readily discernable reason, as the Zaku II didn't even feature color molding. The first kit in the 08th MS Team series combined the RX-79[G] Gundam and MS-06J Zaku II, the latter of which was later re-issued separately. Each kit came with a selection of alternate weapons.

These kits were fully snap-together. The Zugok E and Gundam NT-1 featured color molding, and the latter also sported removable armor parts. Though the other kits didn't use System Injection technology, most were molded in three or more colors and featured gimmicks like transparent visors and mono-eyes.

The Gundam GP01-Fb and Gundam GP03S featured color molding. The former model, incidentally, also included the parts from the original GP01 kit. The Gundam GP02A from this series was probably the single worst Gundam kit released within the past decade.

Mobile Suit Z Gundam
Though Z Gundam's model line still required paint and glue, they were all equipped with polycaps. The 1/100 Z Gundam was given the designation "Full Action" due to its transformation capabilities.
The line also included re-packaged, re-colored versions of selected MSV models. Unlike the rest of the Z Gundam line, these have never been re-issued and are thus highly collectible. The same is true of the metallic 100 Shiki Gold Version kits released at the end of 1988.

Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ
The Gundam ZZ kits were technologically similar to the Z Gundam ones, requiring glue and paint. The ZZ Gundam bore the "Full Action" designation, and was one of the only two Gundam models with die-cast metal parts.
A few of the models in this series were modifications of earlier ones. The Gazu R/L and EWAC Zack were based on Z Gundam's Galbaldy Beta and Hizack, respectively; the Zaku Mariner and Regelgu were adapted from the MS-06R Zaku II and Gelgoog Cannon MSV models; and the Dowadge was a modification of the Dom from the original Gundam series.

Gundam Sentinel
These kits were produced in conjunction with the Model Graphix serial. The highlight was the Zetaplus C1, the first 1/144 transforming model of the Z Gundam (not counting the hideous High Complete Model, which is really a toy). This design was used as the starting point for the later High Grade Z Gundam. The S Gundam models, meanwhile, used multi-colored System Injection molding.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack
These were the first Gundam models not to require glue. However, some of them required the use of small screws to hold together key pieces, whereas later kits were entirely snap-together. The 1/100 Nu Gundam, meanwhile, was the only kit aside from the 1/100 ZZ Gundam to use die-cast metal parts. Some of the models in this line also featured System Injection color molding, last seen in 1983's "iro-pra" models.

Mobile Suit Gundam F90
These models introduced the new, downsized fashion in mobile suits; though it was a 1/100 scale kit, the Gundam F90 was only slightly taller than previous 1/144 models. All the F90 kits featured color molding, which by now had become sufficiently commonplace that Bandai no longer noted it on the box.
The F90 could also be outfitted with all manner of plug-on equipment thanks to its assortment of "hardpoints." The first model in the line included one Gundam and three sets of equipment, while the subsequent ones forced the buyer to pay for another copy of the same Gundam along with the new gadgets.

Mobile Suit Gundam F91
The showpiece of this line was the 1/160 scale Gundam F91, which was really a toy with some minimal assembly required. All its armor was removable, with a detailed skeletal structure underneath. The Guntank R-44, G-Cannon, and both versions of the Gundam F91 featured color molding.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Silhouette Formula 91
This Gundam F91 spinoff line included reworked versions of some F91 kits, as well as a few original designs. The G-Cannon Magnaa, Cluster Gundam, Neo Gundam and both versions of the Gundam RXF91 featured color molding. The Neo Gundam also included a nifty "MS Handbook" booklet.

Mobile Suit V Gundam
The 1/144 V Gundam models came with display stands, and use a uniquely flexible "V Frame" skeletal structure which, like the MS Joint II system used in the High Grade line, was dropped from later kits. The 1/100 Gundams were designated as High Grade, while the 1/60 V2 Gundam was labeled "High Grade-Ex," presumably because it was bigger and better. The last two 1/144 models were designated "High Quality," indicating that they included extra weapons not seen in the original designs. All the Gundams, as well as the 1/100 Gun Blastor, featured color molding.

Mobile Fighter G Gundam
Like the V Gundam line, the 1/100 Gundams were labeled High Grade and the 1/60 ones were High Grade-Ex. The 1/60 G Gundam was particularly impressive, thanks to its fully-articulated fingers and battery-operated chest light. The new polycap set used in the 1/144 G Gundam kits was to be used in every 1/144 kit for the next four years, up until 1998's Endless Waltz line.
With the exception of the Master Gundam and Devil Gundam, all kits in this series featured color molding, while limited-edition golden metallic versions of selected Gundams represented the "hyper mode" seen in the animation.

New Mobile Chronicle Gundam W
The 1/100 Gundam W models were all designated as "High Grade." The 1/60 Wing Gundam 0, meanwhile, sported the articulated fingers and chest light of the 1/60 G Gundam.
All 1/144 Gundams in this series, with the exception of the Gundam Epyon, featured color molding. However, the arrangement of the parts trees in the larger kits made this largely unnecessary, and only the 1/60 Wing Gundam 0, 1/100 Gundam Deathscythe and 1/100 Gundam Deathscythe Hell required the technique in order to ensure proper color fidelity.

New Mobile Chronicle Gundam W: Endless Waltz
Produced in conjunction with the Gundam W original video series, these models feature Hajime Katoki's redesigns of the gaudy Gundams from the television series. Both the 1/100 and the 1/144 models are designated as "High Grade," and the 1/144 models each offer a distinctive "Fighting Action" - parts or gimmicks to replicate the mobile suit's flamboyant animated antics. The 1/100 Gundams also contain 1/20 renditions of their pilots, while the 1/100 Serpent Custom includes 1/20 figures of Relena Darlian and Mariemaia Khushrenada.
All the Gundams in this series except the 1/144 Gundam Heavyarms Custom feature color molding, and the limited-edition 1/100 Wing Gundam Zero Custom Special Operation Type even sports metallic colors. More recently, the 1/144 series were reissued in "metal clear" versions, with a mix of metallic and transparent parts; these limited-edition variants were priced 50% higher than the regular versions. The first production run of the 1/144 Wing Gundam Zero Custom included a full-color promotional booklet.

After War Gundam X
The 1/100 Gundam X models were all designated as "High Grade." Each came with a bonus weapon, used at most once in the actual animation. The 1/100 G-Falcon unit Double X combined the Gundam Double X and the G-Falcon booster. The booster could also be attached to the 1/100 Gundam Airmaster Burst or 1/100 Gundam Leopard Destroy.

Sengoku-den
This trio of oddball kits was a spinoff of the immensely popular - but not otherwise covered on this Web site - Super Deformed Gundam line. These miniaturized parodies of Gundam's mobile suits, with teeny bodies and big heads, have spawned their own array of alternate universes, including one based on feudal Japan's era of warring states. These samurai-styled parodies were then scaled back up to normal size for this peculiar model line, released in 1989. All three kits featured System Injection color molding, metallic parts, and a novel skeletal system called "MS Joint."

High Grade
A bold experiment in high-tech model-making, this 1990 series included deluxe versions of the classic Gundams. As well as System Injection, the first two kits in the series used an "MS Joint II" skeletal system based on that used in the Sengoku-den kits. The ZZ Gundam, meanwhile, was essentially a plastic model version of the earlier High Complete Model. Both the Z Gundam and ZZ Gundam were fully transformable.

High Grade Universal Century
Launched in 1999 for Gundam's twentieth anniversary, this line of kits pays homage to the original series and its direct sequels with high-quality reproductions of classic mobile suits drawn from the Universal Century chronology. While the first two kits will be from the original series, subsequent models will pay homage to Z Gundam and Gundam ZZ as well.

Limited Model
These crude, limited-mobility kits were the form of last resort for models that might otherwise never have been made at all. Molded in monochrome, and consisting of a few heavy pieces, they were nowhere near as colorful or poseable as regular Gundam kits. But there was no other way you'd get a model of Gundam W's Leo. The Limited Model series included robots and figures from Evangelion, Escaflowne, Final Fantasy and other popular series; the following were the Gundam items in the lineup.

Master Grade
This deluxe series of model kits was designed to absorb days of construction time, and the end result was a spectacular showpiece. Many of the models feature removable armor, so you can admire their detailed innards. Deluxe variants include the Crystal Versions, aimed specifically at hard-core modelers who wanted to play with see-through parts, and metallic Coating Versions released in honor of Gundam's twentieth anniversary, which also include figure models of their pilots.
Even for a line aimed at hard-core modelers to begin with, a few Master Grade models were extra-collectible. These, we're told, included the first-edition MS-14S Gelgoog (later editions corrected a couple of design flaws), and early MS-14A Gelgoog and RX-78GP01Fb Zephyranthes kits (which included full-color promotional booklets).
These classic mobile suits were redesigned for the Master Grade line by superstar mechanical designers Kunio Okawara and Hajime Katoki.

Perfect Grade
What's higher than High Grade, and more masterful than Master Grade? Bandai's 1/60 scale Perfect Grade series are truly the ultimate Gundam kits. These deluxe renditions of the classic mobile suits feature a complete set of removable armor, lovingly detailed internal mechanisms, and complete articulation via an array of realistic hydraulics. Two customization sets for the Gundam provide transparent armor parts and a light-up beam saber, and a pair of hyper bazookas and other extra weapons, respectively. The first Zaku customization set includes a bazooka and transparent armor parts.
