Ronin Warriors - The Dark War

Part 18: Cries of the Deep

A large section of Kyoto is in ruins. In these dark ruins, under the now eternal dusk that encompasses the earth, the winds howled and raged as a young lady clad in mystical armor stood ready with her ivory hilted katana. Opposing her were the eight Ronins and former Warlords.

Kajin jumped forward with blinding speed. Ryo was caught off guard as her katana ripped across the middle of his armor knocking him back.

"She's fast," commented Kento as he tried to shake off his previous blows.

Sekhmet stepped up and split his arms into six. He rushed at Kajin with all six blades flying. She parried every blow quickly with her sword. Sekhmet was determined to force her back and pressed his attack even harder. Kajin dropped low and pushed off towards Sekhmet's left. As she glided past him, avoiding his swords, she spun around and slammed her katana into his back. Sekhmet fell face first into the dirt. She proceeded to kicked him the side for good measure.

Sai ran forward and swung at Kajin with his trident. She jumped over it. Just then Sage leapt over Sai. "THUNDER BOLT CUT!" Kajin parried with her sword but was knocked back. Luckily for her, she landed on her feet.

Talpa looked on as the Ronins battled Kajin. "It appears that the Ronins are finally tapping into the power of the gems I have given them. This fits my plans perfectly."

Kajin ran forward into battle. She ducked down low as she neared Kento and sprang up using her sword to uppercut him. Kento flew back and Kajin was airborne. Rowen readied his bow, but too slowly. As Kajin came down she brought her sword down on Rowen's shoulder. Rowen hit the ground and cringed holding his shoulder in pain.

Ryo rushed towards her from behind. She spun around and blocked his attack. Ryo kept up the pace of his attack while Kale blended in with the ambient darkness. Just as Kajin knocked Ryo back Kale brought his no datchi down against Kajin's back. Kajin fell and quickly leapt away.

"It looks as if you Ronins are improving," Kajin stated, "however, I'm going to show you that I am still the master here."

She took her stance. Her armor began to glow, energy seemingly rising off of it like smoke, as she focused her chi.

She started forward at top speed. She slashed her katana across Ryo's chest knocking him back. She continued forward. On the return stroke she knocked Dais out of her way.

Sage and Kale jumped back as Sai lunged in trapping Kajin in his man catcher.

"Do you think this toy will hold me?" She laughed as she began to push the sides apart freeing herself.
"It doesn't need to," he responded.

"BLACK LIGHTNING SLASH!"
"THUNDER BOLT CUT!"

The light and dark blasts from Sage and Kale's attacks flew forward and combined, enhancing each other's power. Kajin was knocked clear out of Sai's man catcher and came crashing down on her back. She slid across the ground and hit a small pile of rubble.

Kajin stood back up and shook herself off. Sekhmet leapt at her. She extended her hand, an aura of light appeared around it. The blast of chi energy shot off and knocked Sekhmet back into a building. He hit the wall and fell back down to earth.

"I've had just about enough of this!" She screamed.

Her sword began to glow with chi as she slashed it through the air in front of her. A wave of energy flew from it and came racing towards the Ronins and former Warlords. They leapt up to avoid the energy but Rowen, Dais, and Sage weren't fast enough. They were hit and thrown back from the impact and knocked unconscious.

"I'm not through with you yet!"

Kajin's eyes began to glow. Energy pools began to form on the ground and erupted under the Ronins. Only Ryo, Sekhmet, and Kento were able to step out of the way quickly enough to avoid the attack. The rest were thrown fifty feet high as their bodies and armor were raked with energy. They finally fell back to earth making craters where they landed and being rendered unconscious by the impact.

"KAJIN!" Ryo screamed as he readied his swords, "I'm going to send you strait to hell no matter what it takes!" Kento and Sekhmet took up positions next to him.
"Feisty little thing aren't you? I like that!"

Talpa continued to view the battle. "You are finally awakening to the dark powers I have given you, my Ronin Warriors. This battle has progressed for long enough. Kajin, return to me."

"Alas, Ronins, much to my dismay, I must leave you now," Kajin stated.

"Get back here so I can rip you apart!" Kento screamed as Kajin vanished.
Ryo slashed a nearby boulder in half to vent some of his built up frustration. The three Ronins just stood their heaving with anger leaving their fallen comrades to recover on their own.

Shen Huang Go and the flight of Nether Dragons he was leading finally reached their destination. They arrived at an area of dense woods over mainland China.

"This is it," Shen Huang Go snarled, "Clear out that entire area. Nothing must stand in the way of the arrival of Kuei Long Shen."

Upon hearing his command the other Nether Dragons reared back and breathed out massive cones of fire incinerating all of the forest indicated by their leader.

"Take your positions."

The Nether Dragons oriented themselves in a circle around the newly cleared out area. They each sat in a meditative position as Shen Huang Go began the ceremony.

The Ronins arrived back at Mia's house from their fight with Kajin. They were still wearing their armor.

"We almost had her!" Ryo screamed.
Rowen pushed Ryo, "What's the deal with you just leaving us unconscious on the ground? Some help would have been nice!"
Ryo pushed him in return, "Back off!"
Rowen proceeded to punch Ryo in the face sending him back into a cabinet full of expensive crystal. Ryo got up and drew his swords.

"ENOUGH!" Mia screamed at the top of her lungs, "Look what you are doing to my house! And why are you still in your armor? Please calm down."

Hariel and Saber Strike looked at each other and back to the Ronins.
"What is with them?" inquired Major Wolfe.
"Hmmmm." replied the Monk.

All of the Ronins powered down.

"What new info do you have for us. I feel great and I'm going to bust some heads in the next fight." Kento said.

"There is no way you can be feeling that good, you just went though a very difficult fight," Hariel stated.
Kento held up his arms and flexed. "I'm telling you I've never felt this good before, " he said as he slammed his foot down on Mia's coffee table, breaking it in two.
"My coffee table!" Mia shouted as her eyebrow began to twitch.

"If the eight of you could please refrain from breaking any more furniture for a while, I have some very important information for you," the Monk stated calmly.

"You have allowed Draka to obtain three of the Armors of Darkness. Each one he activates causes yet another disaster to fall over the Earth. While it appears now that Draka's plans involve simply destroying the Earth though the use of the Armors of Darkness, I believe that his goals are much more ambitious than that. I believe that his true plan may even be rooted in the ancient struggle between him and the Goddess of the Sun Amaterasu."

"What good does that do us?" Sekhmet asked, "So far all you have managed to tell is that we are fighting gods with hidden agendas. Why don't you make yourself useful and just tell us where the next armor is."

"As you wish. He will most likely go after the Armor of the Demon Waves. Like the Armor of Dread Wind, this one is keyed to an element, water. It is imperative that you stop him." The Monk rolled out a map and showed them the location. The Ronins and former Warlords headed out to find the armor.

After they left, the Monk confronted Hariel, Saber Strike, Wolfe, Kayura, and Mia. "Something has happened to them. I don't know if it some side effect of the gems of power they have acquired or something more sinister. Either way, you should watch them closely and be prepared to fight without them."

The Ronins arrived at the shore of the sandy beach where the shrine was located. Anubis, Mayu, Gojin, Nadago, and Hikaro were already there and walking to the small shrine.

"Hold it right there!" Kento shouted. Draka's five warlords turned and looked.
"Back for more punishment Ronins?" Anubis questioned.
"This time we are going to be doing the punishing!" Ryo said, "Ronins TO ARMS!!"

"ARMOR OF WILDFIRE! TAO JIN!"
"ARMOR OF HALO! TAO CHI!"
"ARMOR OF TORRENT! TAO SHIN!"
"ARMOR OF HARD ROCK! TAO GI!"
"ARMOR OF STRATA! TAO INOCHI!"
"ARMOR OF VENOM! TAO KO!"
"ARMOR OF CORRUPTION! TAO TEI!"
"ARMOR OF ILLUSION! TAO NIN!"

The Ronins and former Warlords armored up as Draka's Warlords took up defensive stances. The Ronins raced forward into battle immediately.

Ryo and Rowen charged at Anubis. Ryo increased his speed as Rowen held back. Ryo slashed his swords at Anubis' waist. Anubis jumped up and avoided the attack.

"ARROW SHOCK WAVE!" Rowen said as his bow sent off a massive energy bolt. Anubis who was in the air dodging Ryo's attack was unable to avoid Rowan's. As the blast of energy flew towards him, Anubis held up his kusari gama and tried to block the full force of the attack. Anubis was hit and thrown back into the waves that were washing against the shore.

Anubis, now covered with foam, stood back up as Ryo and Rowen approached him. Anubis jumped into the air with lightning speed slamming the weighted end of his kusari gama into Rowen, knocking him down, and wrapping itself around him. As Anubis landed he pulled on the chain and yanked Rowen into the air.

"FLARE UP NOW!" Ryo screamed while his swords threw forth a huge burst of flame. Anubis leapt up avoiding the shot and taking Rowen with him. While in the air Anubis spun Rowen around and released the hold that the kusari gama had on him. Rowen went flying towards Ryo. Rowen held out his hands causing the force bubble to form around him and stop him before he was able to impact Ryo.

As Rowen glided back to the ground, Ryo raced forward at Anubis. He slashed furiously at Anubis forcing him back as he dodged and parried all the attacks. "You've gotten better Wildfire," Anubis commented.

Sekhmet and Dais faced off against Nadago. Nadago drew his katana and stepped up to the challenge. He lunged in towards Dais and slashed him across his stomach first, and then upwards across his chest on the return stroke. Dais stumbled backwards while Sekhmet jumped up bringing both of his katanas down on Nadago. Nadago raised his sword and blocked both of Sekhmet's. Nadago slid back quickly so Sekhmet could not gain an advantage over him.

"DARK BLADE CUT!" Nadago shouted. A bolt of energy shot from his blade and ripped into Sekhmet knocking him back. Just then, "WEB OF DECEPTION!" Dais shouted as the tips of his extensor blades impacted the ground near Nadago. Fibers of webbing shot out from the impact sites and covered Nadago, trapping him.

Sekhmet stood up. "SNAKE FANG STRIKE!" The blades of his swords whirled around him and slashed across Nadago. He could feel Sekhmet's poison acting on him as well as on the webs that held him. He struggled to get free and was able to leap away before taking too much damage.

While in the air he drew his bow. Upon landing he drew back and fired. " ARROW OF DARK FURY!" The bolt of black energy hit Sekhmet square in the chest sending him falling back.

Kento charged at Mayu. He swung his staff at her. She jumped over him, dodging the attack and landing behind him. Mayu spun around and kicked him in the head knocking him to the side. Kento rolled, recovered, and got back on his feet.

"You're going to have to be faster than that to beat me little man," Mayu stated calmly.

Kento lunged forward with is staff. Mayu stepped sideways avoiding the attack. Kento swung his staff to the right almost catching Mayu as she dodged his first attack. Kento pivoted and leapt up. He swung his staff down at Mayu, who jumped back to avoid it.

Mayu pulled out her sais as Kento pressed his attack further. He stabbed and swung his staff forward repeatedly trying to hit her just once. Every time she was able to parry with her sais.

"You've greatly improved, but you're still no match for me."
"We'll see about that girlie."

Kento stabbed his staff forward, Mayu dodged the attack by sliding right. He swung right and she dodged again. He spun the staff around and pushed off with his foot aiming the staff downwards. The staff impacted the ground between her feet as Kento ran forward. The staff pivoted around as he ran and Mayu's legs were caught causing her to fall down. As she fell Kento pivoted around.

He looked down at Mayu on the ground and got a little sneer.

"IRON ROCK CRUSHER!" Kento screamed as his staff slammed into the ground right next to Mayu. She looked down as the ground around her tore apart. An expression of terror almost crossed her face. Pieces of the earth flew into the air taking Mayu with them. As the earth and Mayu hit the ground Kento laughed a bit.

"Now who's the man? Eh?"
The earth slid aside as Mayu stood up.
"No slaggin' way you could have lived though that!"
"Well done, round one is yours. But I shall still emerge the victor."

Gojin stood with his Twin Demon Swords facing off against Sage and Kale who stood ready with their nodatchis. Gojin stepped forward, "TWIN DEMONS DESTROY!" Demonic black energy flew from his swords at Kale and Sage. Sage jumped up and forward avoiding the attack and brought his nodatchi down towards Gojin while Kale jumped to the side and melded with the eternal dusk. Gojin sidestepped avoiding Sage's attack.

Gojin and Sage faced off again. Suddenly Gojin pivoted around and extended his arm outward. This knocked Kale out of his shadow meld. Kale fell.

"Your tricks won't work against me. I can see though your pathetic meld with ease. I am a servant of Darkness and these swords are nothing less than two Demons that I have defeated and enslaved to serve me."

Gojin's head turned as he caught a glimpse of Sage behind him. "THUNDER BOLT CUT!" Gojin jumped up avoiding the blast.

As soon as Sage's attack passed Kale, he stood up and readied his nodatchi. "BLACK LIGHTNING SLASH!" Kale's attack hit Gojin and sent him crashing down to earth.

Gojin got up and shook himself off.
Hikaro stood his ground against Sai, his hands flaming with the power of the Nether Realm. Hikaro's hand ebbed with flame. He extended it, "DARK NETHER FLAME!" The blast of blue-black flame shot at Sai. Sai pivoted to the side just in time to avoid it. He thrust his hand forward, temporarily releasing the grip on his man catcher so he could get maximum reach. The sides wrapped around Hikaro as Sai tightened his grip once more.

Sai pulled back on the man catcher dragging Hikaro with him. He spun around and released Hikaro, who went flying towards the shallow water near the shore. Right after releasing him Sai jumped up and spun his trident around in mid air so the tip was pointing down. As Hikaro crashed into the water he noticed Sai coming strait down on him. He held up his gauntlets and blocked Sai's trident. Sai kept the pressure on and the tip of his trident came even closer to Hikaro's helmet.

Hikaro summoned up all of his strength to force Sai off of him. Sai landed gracefully in the water and stood ready. Hikaro got up as well. Now the two combatants were facing off in water that came up to about their waists. Both were covered in surf and constantly buffeted by the small waves that kept rolling in.

Talpa and his newest Warlord, Kajin Ikari arrived at the Isle of Mists.

"Welcome to our base, Kajin," Talpa stated as they continued onward towards his palace. When they arrived they were welcomed by Hawthorn, Kinjiro, and Damo.

"Haha! Lord Talpa, this girl can't possibly be your new Warlord." Hawthorn stated with contempt.
"I am indeed Talpa's Warlord of Ruin. I'm stronger than any of you, that's for sure." Kajin retorted.
Talpa interrupted, "Please refrain from arguing. We are all on the same side here. And we have some rather large problems to deal with. First and foremost we must stop Draka. Kinjiro."
"Yes my lord," Kinjiro responded while Kajin's head perked up as if she sensed something.
"What is the status of the construction of our Mecha knights?"
"Production of all three models of the Mecha Knights are proceeding ahead of schedule. We shall soon be able to launch a full offensive against Draka."
"Superb work. However we must cut Draka off at the pass. If he gets his hands on nine of the Armors of Darkness all of our work could be in vain. I shall provide you with as much information on them as possible. You must devise a way to locate them so that we can get them first."
"It will be a pleasure my Lord."

Kajin's eyes narrowed and she looked around trying to sense the power that she felt on the Isle.

Talpa continued his conversation with Kinjiro, "With our armada of Mecha Knights and Dynasty Soldiers we will be able to strike down Draka. Soon the Ronins will be joining us, but before that, I believe its time that we recruit another Warlord."
"Shall we be going after the one in Brazil or the other one in Japan. If the one in Brazil is who I believe it to be, it would be in our best interest to leave him out of this war. I shall recruit the remaining one in Japan personally."

Kajin interrupted, "Talpa you should put your plans on hold. I can sense a strong power on this Isle. It doesn't feel like Nether Realm power, its something different. It is well concealed, but my chi training allows me to feel it."
"What?" Talpa asked.
"I'm not sure what it is but I think my senses can allow me to find it."

Talpa, Kinjiro, Damo, Hawthorn, and two Mecha Knights followed Kajin as she focused her chi on the energy she felt and lead them across the isle. Eventually she came to a hill on the east side of the isle. "There." She said.

"That's a hill!" Hawthorn pointed out.
"Thank you for that amazing grasp of the obvious." She replied.

Kajin focused her chi as she extended her hands. The dirt and grass covering the hill began to glow with energy and soon disintegrated into a fine dust that was easily whisped away by the raging winds that now covered the earth. Where the hill was, now stood a moderately sized shrine.

"Hahahaha!! This chick has style." Hawthorn cackled out in his usual psychotic tone.

"You see, the hill was only a cover for whatever this thing is," Kajin said, ignoring Hawthorn's smart remark.
Talpa looked over the shrine noticing the elaborate decorations, "Amaterasu. This belongs to her. We have to get in," Talpa stated as he walked to the doors.

"The sun goddess?" Kajin questioned.
"Indeed. And thus it may hold invaluable information pertaining to our current dilemma."
"This just keeps getting more and more interesting."

Kinjiro walked up to the two large stone doors and looked them over, "Mecha Knights, scan the building."
The Mecha Knights scanned the building and reported, "Building is protected by a very powerful magical field. Probability of gaining entrance by force, minimal."

Talpa interrupted pointing to some markings and an indentation on the door, "We don't need to use force. We need the jewel of life. That treasure, given to this world by Amaterasu will provide us with an entrance as indicated here. Hawthorn, Damo, bring me that jewel."
"Yes master Talpa," they answered in unison.

Ryo and Anubis were engaged in a furious battle. With every second Ryo seemed to be gaining strength. He slashed down with his swords pushing Anubis's kusari gama down as he blocked. Ryo took the opportunity and lunged forward shoulder ramming Anubis. Anubis lost his balance and fell backwards as Ryo joined his two swords at the hilt.

"FLARE UP NOW!"

Anubis' jaw dropped as he saw the blast of flame coming towards him as he was still on the ground. Anubis rolled to the side and jumped high up as the flame went ripping past him. His arm was hit and he could feel the pain from the attack. Anubis turned while high in mid air and swung the weighted end of his kusari gama around.

"QUAKE WITH FEAR!"

"ARROW SHOCK WAVE!" Rowen screamed as he let off a bolt of energy from his bow at Anubis. The bolt hit Anubis before his kusari gama was able to penetrate deep into the ground, thus preventing him from utilizing his technique. Anubis fell from the sky and landed hard. Ryo and Rowen walked towards him weapons ready.

Nadago walked towards Sekhmet and drew his katana to finish what he started with his bow. Dais stepped in between them. "You have to get past me first."

"You act as if that was some kind of a challenge." Nadago charged forward and swiped at Dais with his sword. Dais jumped back and raked his extensor blades across Nadago. Nadago, holding his katana in his right hand, shook off the hit and then charged forward and slashed high. Dais blocked with his extensors leaving himself open for attack. Nadago kneed Dais in the stomach making him curl up in pain. As he cringed, Nadago brought his left hand down on top of Dais's head knocking down even further. Nadago finished by spinning around and sweeping Dais's legs out from under him. Dais fell down on his back as Nadago spun his sword around and prepared to impale him.

"SNAKE FANG STRIKE!"

Sekhmet's attack impacted Nadago knocking him away from Dais before he could strike. Sekhmet ran forward jumping over Dais and coming down on Nadago with both swords. Nadago barely moved out of the way. Sekhmet spun around slashing his swords. They hit Nadago and sent him flying back.

Mayu stood covered in dirt, with her sais ready, facing off against Kento. Kento lunged forward with his staff. Mayu moved to the side. Kento stopped and pivoted around trying to roundhouse kick Mayu. She ducked under his kick and swept his leg out from under him. Kento fell but was able to grab Mayu as he went down. He used the leverage of the fall to throw Mayu over him. She landed a few feet away.

Both of the combatants got up and resumed their battle. Mayu darted forward and slammed her hand into Kento's face.

"SPECTRAL ENERGY DRAIN!"

Kento could feel the power being ripped from his body. He screamed loudly in agony. In a last ditch effort he swung his staff around and whacked Mayu clean across the side of her head. She went hurtling off to the side and fell, skidding across the ground. Kento shook himself off and charged at her. He brought his staff down on her. She brought up her sais and parried his attack.

Gojin stood with his Twin Demon Swords as Kale and Sage approached him.

"BLACK LIGHTNING SLASH!"
"THUNDER BOLT CUT!"

Once more Sage's and Kale's attacks merged together each amplifying the other and went hurtling at Gojin. He jumped up and landed in front of Sage and Kale. With his left hand he ripped one of his katanas across Kale's chest sending him reeling back. With his right katana he struck at Sage. Sage parried the blow with his nodatchi.

"The two of you are interfering with my mission. So I am through playing games with you."

"TWIN DEMONS DESTROY!"

The black power shot forth from his swords and tore into Sage and Kale. They screamed in pain and agony and soon fell to the ground unconscious.

With his opponents defeated Gojin walked to the small shrine and began the incantation.

"In times of old your power was hidden from us. I summon and call upon your power. Spread your dark might across the world. Welcome tidal waves, raging waters, and roaring floods. Reveal yourself to us so that Draka might command you once more. Appear, Armor of Demon Waves!!"

Hikaro and Sai continued their battle as the waves battered against them. Hikaro rushed in close to Sai and attacked him with a flurry of punches. Sai was dodging them faster than usual. Sai glided back in the water and started to quickly slash his trident against Hikaro. Sai continued his assault knocking Hikaro back.

Hikaro dug his stance in, "DIE RONIN! SPHERE OF ANNIHILATION!"

Black energy surged out from Hikaro forming a sphere which consumed everything in its path. Sai was thrown back and the water around them was vaporized. As the sphere of energy dissipated water rushed in from the ocean to the void it left. Hikaro looked down with satisfaction.

Sai arose from the water. Hikaro stepped back in shock, "No one could have survived that."
Sai extended his trident, "Its my turn now."

"SUPER WAVE SMASHER!"

A torrent of water smashed into Hikaro blasting him right out of the ocean and back onto dry land. He struggled to get up but collapsed.

Sai looked over and saw the pillars and platform appearing upon which the Armor of the Demon Waves rested. "I've got to stop him!" Sai said to himself as he rushed out of the water and strait at Gojin.

"Awa---"
Sai ran up to Gojin and slammed his trident into his back knocking him down.

"I can't let you do that."

Gojin began to stand up and turn around.

"SUPER WAVE SMASHER!"

Sai's torrent of water crashed into Gojin, knocking him down and sending him skidding across the sandy beach digging a trench into the sand as he was pushed back.

Mayu caught a glimpse of Gojin being knocked away form the Armor. She pushed on her sais making Kento step back. Mayu got up, turned, and headed towards the armor.

"Oh no you don't! IRON ROCK CRUSHER!"

Mayu looked behind her to see the ground being torn up as she ran. She jumped off to the side and avoided the attack.

"Anubis, we've got to get out of here. These guys are wiping the floor with us." Mayu stated with regret.
Anubis jumped back from Ryo and Rowen, "You're right. Get Gojin, I'll get Hikaro. Lets get out of here."

Mayu picked up Gojin, while Anubis grabbed Hikaro. Then all five of Draka's warlords vanished.

The Ronins looked around and cheered. They had finally won a fight and gotten the Armor. No one bothered to help Kale or Sage who were still laying on the ground unconscious.

"So how do we move this thing?" Sai asked.
"I don't know," Sekhmet replied, "Maybe we can destroy it."
"I don't think that will work," Ryo interjected, "But perhaps it can form itself into an orb like are armor can."
"Its worth a try," Rowen stated, "Ok here it goes. Armor of Demon Waves transform into something more portable."
Kale and Sage finally awakened and walked over to the others.

In a shadowy office the head of UN security Marcus Talbot sat and awaited news on his plan. A man in uniform entered his dark office, saluted, and began his report.

"Sir, the United Nations has agreed to your plan. They have given full control to you. They expect results."

"Superb, they shall have the results they need. Our first order of business is to relocate to a highly defended command center. Then we must begin assembling the necessary equipment and strike team. See to it that all the details are taken care of."

"Yes Sir," the man said and left Talbot's office.

Kayura and the others approached them. "This is great, you beat them and stopped them from getting the armor," Kayura said congratulating them.

Wolfe spoke up, "but if this Armor is so important to Draka he will most likely try to regain it."
"Don't worry, we can take him," Kento said contradicting him.

Saber Strike spoke quietly to Hariel, "I do believe that the Ronins are slipping. They seem to be more aggressive and are demonstrating less wisdom."
"I think you are correct. We will need to consult with the Monk about this immediately."

The Nether Dragons continued their ceremony in the woods of mainland China. Shen Huang Go recited chants in the ancient language of the Dragons. The sky above the clearing turned black as energy began to ripple and arc about. Reality tore itself apart forming a gateway.
