No idea if this will be seen outside of Australia [since I got my new feed I haven't seen anything get out of Australia *sigh* here's hoping...] I still have the translation of the first episode on file if anyone is interested.... Thanks to Cynthia for the translation! Michael =====cut here===== Let's Go! Unagi-chan R Newtype Genki R 1994/04 By: Asari Yoshitou (Space Family Carlvinson, Manga Science, Wahhaman) Translation: Cynthia Ma (cynthia@wapiko.apana.org.au) 19 March 1994 Editing: Michael Edwards (michaele@wapiko.apana.org.au) 02 April 1994 Michael's Comments: As normal the numbers nn.p refer to page number (nn) and panel (p). My panel descriptions are in [], explanations are in <> Another story from Asari Yoshitou and this the second of probably the weirdest mainstream SailorMoon parody. The first story was in the November 1993 Genki R. Unagi is drawn like the ironing creature in Carlvinson but with a Sailor Suit and that hair... She is sort of a cross between a black pacman and a fly.... Genki R is the comic insert in Newtype and is included in the April and November issues. This issue and the last two have also had a CLAMP story. Anyway back to the main feature: In Sailormoon, Usagi's family name is "Tsukino" which is "Tsuki" = moon and "no" = field... in this manga "Tsukiji" is a place in Tokyo known for the largest fishmarket in Japan, "no" = field, and "Unagi" = eel giving us the name of our "heroine" Tsukijino Unagi. Ami-chan's face is made up of the hiragana "Heno" "Heno" "Mohe" (eye, eye, mouth) that is a "Henohenomoheji" face [sort of indicates baka!] and her name is made up from "A" = rice bran, "mi" = prawn. She also tends to have a sweat drop on her face while talking with Unagi. [Although there is good reason for that....] ==>Start Translation==> 55.1 [ Unagi going though a rubbish bin ] 55.2 [ and finds a partly eaten fish to eat ] 55.3 Title: Let's Go! Namako: So, when are you going to give it to him? 57.5 Unagi: Of course on his birthday, August 5th. Namako: A jumper in mid-summer... [ Namako turns and leaves... ] Namako: I don't think he will not be annoyed... 57.6 [ Change of scene: Unagi lying down with a carefully peeled mandarin ] [ She seems to be wearing the jumper she just knitted... she is also ] [ eating the peel... ] 58.1 [ Unagi is reading, there is also some bones from a fish and ] [ bits of mandarin peel left around her... ] Unagi: I wonder what I should do next time... Wasn't there a golden pattern in shoujo manga? 58.4 [ Unagi is crouched behind her object of desire, the guy with a ] [ fluorescent tube as a head... ] Unagi: Pretend that it is coincidence, run into him and create a chance! 58.5 [ She jumps at him pushing him...] Unagi: Hey! 58.6 [ We can now see the whole scene, a railway platform with Unagi ] [ on her knees, a train passing and what seems to be blood ] [ flying everywhere... ] 58.7 [ A close up of Unagi and no change on her face... ] 59.1 [ Unagi relating the story to Ami-chan who is very worried and Ami ] [ turns to see two other guys obviously talking about the "accident".] Unagi: And so, he became all red. [ Implying that he blushed but of course that didn't happen... ] 59.2 [ New scenario: Unagi talking to Ami and Namako ] Unagi: Ami-chan, listen to this! 59.3 [ A flash back to last night with a black cat in the background. ] Unagi: Last night a strange black cat came to my place and talked! 59.4 [ The cat talks to Unagi... ] Cat: "Unagi-chan you're a soldier chosen to save this world." Cat: "Combine your power with the other 4 soldiers and fight!" 59.5 [ The flash back ends... ] Cat: "The enemies are coming close!" Unagi: That's what it said. 59.6 [ A worried looking Ami-chan ] Ami: So... so... 60.1 [ Ami looks at Unagi ] Ami: What happened after that? Unagi: It's a problem that the scum* of cats is so thick. 60.2 [ Stunned silence ] 60.3 [ Ami is starting to look more worried than usual ] Ami: Eh? Unagi: I said - because the scum of cat's flesh is thick, when boiled there are bubbles so it's a bit of a problem. 60.4 [ Ami lets this sink in ] 60.5 [ A pool of sweat from her sweat beads begins to form... ] 60.6 [ and Ami bursts into tears... Ami: Wa-----------h! [ Meanwhile Unagi hasn't noticed Ami's distress ] Unagi: Personally I prefer dogs ------ END ------ scum* actually the word is "aku", it's the bubbles and stuff around the rim of the pot when you are boiling meat... =============== -- Michael Edwards michaele@wapiko.apana.org.au Technical Director & Chief Editor of Gyopi Studio, Sydney, Australia.
