Hitomi Kanzaki's grandmother
Hitomi received her pendant as a momento from her maternal grandmother. Hitomi's grandmother also bought Hitomi a Merlin Tarot set in Yokohama as another momento. An incident in Hitomi's grandmother's childhood (when she was about fifteem years old) would have reprucussions in Hitomi's own adventures.

Note: In the animated version, Hitomi's grandmother is protrayed but not named. In Katsu-Aki's Shounen Ace manga version of Escaflowne, she does not play a role at all. In Yuzuru Yashiro's Asuka Fantasy DX manga version of Escaflowne, Hitomi's grandmother has a name (Yuri) and a critical role in the story.
