Western Shinma

Lemures is Larva's eldest friend and also a Western Shinma. The two have known each other throughout the long, eternal years. In the OAV, Lemures' goal is to save Larva from Miyu's imprisonment. He realizes that Larva is entirely under Miyu's control, and places a seal similar to the one on Miyu's parents upon his friend. With Larva imprisoned, he proceeds to convince a human soul that it is a Shinma and uses it to attack Miyu. She cannot attack it, and therefore tricks Himiko into making it back off. Lemures then attacks Miyu and tries to kill her. He knows that Larva can only be freed by killing her and tries to do that. Unfortunately, Lemures has an exaggerated view of his own powers and finds himself helpless before Miyu. She demands that he break the seal on Larva, but he refuses, insisting that this is what is best for his friend. Miyu gets angry and is about to banish Lemures to the Dark, but then quenches the bursts of flames around him and looks at him with a frown. "You, I will not return to the Dark. You, Shinma Lemures, I will burn to cinders." She sets him on fire and he screams as he burns. "Larva! You've been charmed by this girl!" The seal holding Larva is released and the eye of the mask slowly lights up with red fire. "Lemures, don't you understand?" he whispers telepathically. Lemures screams again and moans: "Understand what?" Larva, in a very sad voice, replies: "This girl's... sorrow..." Lemures dies.

In the manga, Lemures impersonates a vampire and kills all of Miyu's intended victims, though he doesn't need the blood as she does. His reasons are the same as in the OAV; he wants to free Larva from Miyu's control. Once, long ago, when Larva was sent to kill Miyu, he and Larva promised that they would have a toast with Miyu's blood when he returned. Miyu once again proves stronger than Lemures and returns him to the Dark, after which Larva says that, when Larva returns to the Dark when all this is over, he and Lemures will drink of his own blood, which has been tainted by Miyu.

Carlua is Larva's young cousin. She has a crush on him and wants to release him from Miyu's "imprisonment". She despises Miyu for imprisoning him. When Larva left to kill Miyu, he promised Carlua he'd return. When he never did, she took it upon herself to find him.

Cait Sith is a slightly psychotic Shinma obsessed by his missions. He is also the most truly evil of the Shinma. He desperately wants to kill Miyu, because Miyu's ancestress turned his mother, the great witch Caial, to stone. He also wants to free his mother and wants to double-cross the Western Shinma, with whom he came to Japan.

Lemures' younger brother and Carlua's VERY good friend. Lemunia's goal is to kill Yui, but he's betrayed by Gia, Gio, Gigi & Gima and ends up in the arms of his prey. Yui tries to cure him, telling him she understands what it's like to be betrayed by one's own companions. Lemunia repays her kindness by taking the fatal blow meant for Yui by Gia.

He attacks Miyu through her dreams; mostly dreams of her childhood and her awakening as a vampire. He is killed.

Pazusu is Larva and Carlua's "foster-father". He takes them in when they are very young and takes care of them, since he was a friend of Carlua's father. He is the least evil of the Shinma; his causes are just and he is self-sacrificing and not afraid to die. His goal is to destroy Caial, who killed his friend (Carlua's father). Unfortunately, he destroys Caial's stone body but a shard gets imbedded into his body. Thinking that this could be her only weakness, he keeps it. When Larva asks for Caial's greatest weakness, Pazusu gives him the stone piece, knowing full well that removing it from himself will kill him. He dies, much to Larva's horror.

Spartoi is Larva and Amy's friend. He uses a dragon as his armor and sword, and he grew up wiht Larva and Carlua. Unfortunately, he isn't very bright.

Water Lipper has the ability to manipulate -- guess what? -- water. She fights Ichiru, but is killed by Gia, Gio, Gigi and Gima.

The four Gs (I'm too lazy to type out their names AGAIN) are Caial's former servants. They are extremely loyal to her, and will do anything to bring her back to life. They follow Cait Sith when Caial becomes a statue, intent on breaking her from her imprisonment. They are killed by various characters, both Shinma and non.

He (yes, HE) manipulates fire. Amy is a friend of Spartoi, and is only out for revenge (though no one's sure what for). When Larva is turned back to his old self, Miyu stayed with a mother and daughter for a little while and grew very attached to them. When Amy learns this, he burns the mother and daughter to cinders. Miyu takes great pleasure in returning the favor.
