Akari Unryuu comes from a family that raises sumo wrestling pigs. Her pig, Katsunishiki was the champion sumo wrestling pig until he was defeated by the much more experienced fighting pig, P-chan. After finding out that Ryoga and P-chan were one and the same, she was overjoyed and instantly fell in love with him.
Akari's grandfather told her that she should marry whoever could defeat Katsunishiki, luckily for her it was Ryoga. Akari has absolutely no problem with the fact that Ryoga turns into a little black pig, she actually thinks it's quite interesting and loves Ryoga all the more for it.
