Herb, Lime, and Mint are the last remaining memebers of the Musk Dyansty. Their ancestors had thrown various animals into the cursed Spring of Drowned Woman in Jusenkyo and married them. The result are the human children with animal characteristics.
Herb is part dragon. He leads Lime (who is part tiger and ridiculously strong), and Mint (part wolf and incredibly fast). Herb accidently fell into the Spring of Drowned Woman and now shares a similar curse with Ranma. Lime and Mint are fancinated by the fact that Herb changes into a girl (they have never seen one before and are particularly intrested in breasts).
The trio come to Tokyo to find brides for themselves and happen upon Shampoo and Akane.
