Mariko Konjo

Yuuko Kobayashi

English voice:

Mariko Konjo from Seisyun High School is the captain of the cheerleading team. She is madly in love with Upperclassman Kuno, and decides to have a Martial Arts Cheerleading contest with Kuno's beloved Pigtailed Girl to see who would win the heart of Kuno.

Of course, Ranma only does it because it's a competion and he never turns down a good challenge.

Mariko often spells things out in Romanji characters such as M-A-R-I-K-O, much like your average cheerleader would do in a cheer.

Her fighting style is very similar to Kodachi's in that she uses cheerleading tools in much the same way that Kodachi uses gymnastic tools in her martial arts competitions.

The Meaning Behind the Name
Mariko is a common Japanese name meaning "child of true benefit." This could be a reference that she benefits the teams she cheers for and ensures that they do not lose. Konjo is broken down into "today's law."
