Sometimes you never can understand Gohan, maybe due to his mixed race. You never know his next action or sense his feelings. You never know his truth from his lie. After he was introduced to us which I beleive was DragonBall Z #1 he showed like his father the great Super Saiya-Jin great fighting skills, yet his dream was to become a scholar. May beleive his goal to be a scholar is set forth by Chichi's constant influencing. Chichi telling him not to fight to become a great scholar.

I short time after the arrival of Raditz (his uncle) he matured and grew to understand his powers and actual meaning in life and was kept from his dream. You may ask what happened? Well the first thing was that Piccolo took him away from his family to learn to live on his own and to survive.

His first real fight was against Nappa and Vegeta. They were great Saiya-Jins. He was only at the age of 5 and was taking on people 2 to 5 sizes bigger then him for the purpose to protect the weak and inisent.

He had Saiya-Jin blood flowing through his body and as you know Saiya-Jins love to fight but not Gohan. Although times he kicked ass deep down he was scared. Also the mix of Saiya-Jin and Human blood made him stronger in mind, sole, and in strength but also a unliking to fight. Instead of fighting he enjoys spending with the ones he loves and cares about.

However when he become enraged and mad as hell, then we see his saiya-jin heritage flow. For example in the Cell saga that's when Gohan showed his real power. He becomes uncontrolable not because what people have done to him but more of when he looks around he sees the injustice.

He showed some talent in the Nappa, Vegeta saga. Not a the first but near the last 3 episodes. When he saw that his dad was indanger he fought Vegeta (in ware gorrila form) till Yasarobi who cut him done to size. Then we he looked finished he sent the "Spirit Bomb" back into Vegeta nearly killing him.

Gohan has showed great fighting experiences and techniques. At 5 he even patened the Kamaomawave. It makes you wonder will he be a better fighter then his father? Let's let the series tell us.
