ANIME COMPANIES CRACK DOWN ON BOOTLEGGING 08/11/00

Many anime fans have noted that in recent years the practice of bootlegging has grown to extreme levels. According to Bandai's Jerry Chu this trend will be stopped.

"Have you seen Perfect Blue?" said Mr. Chu when asked about the issue by Anime News Wire, "That's nothing compared to what we will do to you if you bootleg Gundam shit."

Chu continued, "Where starting an anti-bootleg revolution, sort of like Dance Dance Revolution but without the arrows."

Apparently Bandai isn't the only company ready to put a stop to all bootlegging. "We're offering and 'all you can carry' deal to anyone who reports bootleggers to us." said a representative of Manga Entertainment. "Basically, anyone who alerts us of bootlegging will get all the copies of Mad Bull 34 they can carry."

"This is really cool!" said one anime fan who participated in the "all you can carry" program. "I got all these Mad Bull 34 tapes for free!" When asked what he intended to do with a big pile of Mad Bull 34, the young otaku said "I'm gonna make copies of Ninja Scroll and sell 'em for six bucks on the Ebay!"

Other companies offers, however, were less lucrative. "We're giving away frisbees" said ADV Film's Matt Greenfield. When asked how frisbees are related to anime, Greenfield said "Well, some people call them Evangelion DVDs."

"Unlike AD Vision and Manga we don't make crap that we can just give away" said Central Park Media Spokesmecha M.D. Geist "We here at CPM are proud of all of our titles, even 'Battle Arena Toshinden'."

"However," Geist continued "We will be giving out every issue of that stupid magazine 'Smile' to anyone who reports bootleggers to us."
