Alright, guys, here's the scoop: as many of you probably already know, Galaxy Express 999 is alive and roughin' it in Japan, in the pages of the monthly Big Gold Magazine. What i consider great in all of this is that CAPTAIN HARLOCK has made a few appearances on the comic! Our correspondent from Japan, Patrik Washburn, reports:
"I recently contacted you with info on Matsumoto's comics and told you that GE999 has started up again. Well the 4th installment came out today (a whole 100 pages!) and I just finished it. Anyway, there's a scene where a planet has just exploded and the fragments are hurtling toward 999 when from out of nowhere energy bolts blast the planet fragments away. Nobody has a clue who it is, when from out of the darkness of space comes...the ARCADIA!!!

Kanon (the heart of 999 now in a flesh-like body): It's the Arcadia!
Tetsuro: Captain Harlock!
Harlock: Tetsuro! How's everything? I'm happy to meet you among the sea of
stars again.
Tetsuro: It's a 3D hologram! It looks like he's standing in space!
Harlock: I've heard you had it tough on Earth.
Tetsuro: It was nothing.
Harlock. I see. You haven't changed!! That's good. You're still
strong-willed. Your next opponent is much more powerful than the
[mechanical empire?]. Don't give up!
Metel: How's Tochiro, Harlock?
Harlock: Thank you for asking about my dear friend. He's fighting the good
fight. He's the Arcadia!! [He's the main computer controlling the ship (i
think)]
The time will come for to travel together. I'm looking forward to it, Tetsuro.
Tetsuro: The time to travel together?
Harlock: I must go. We'll talk again soon.
Metel: Why must you rush? Where's Emeraldas? Have you seen her?
Harlock: Let me know if you hear of her whereabouts. Wherever she is, we'll
find her. Until then. See you again!!
- and then the Arcadia takes off into the...darkness-
I hope you are as thrilled as I am to know that CH has appeared once again and it seems that the storylines get tied together as I had hoped. I can't wait 'til 11/28 when the next installment comes out.

Well, the next installment finally came out, and apparently Earth bit it big time! Here's what Patrik had to say:
"There have been seven episodes so far; two episodes with Harlock and, oh yeah, last month the Earth blew up. Bummer!
Tetsuro promises Meteru he wouldn't cry, but he's really pissed. Harlock tells him that Earth lives inside of Tetsuro and as long as he lives...blah blah. I was bummed. Leiji LOVES to blow up the Earth! DON'T TOUCH IT, YOU FOOL!!
Leiji spells the name Ban, Vam by the way. I had a list of the different times he used the same names. I'll have to find it again."
Yes there were many names Matsumoto liked using and re-using. Tadashi apparently was one of them :)
Well, tis all for now, i hope we'll get the chance to see it all first hand someday.... In the meantime, Viz has scheduled a release of ADIEU GALAXY EXPRESS 999 for April of 97, which is when this page will be one year old!
