2000 A.D.

The Second Impact: a gigantic meteor slams into Antarctica, melting the polar ice cap and causing drastic rises in sea level and changes to climate worldwide. Within one year, only half the Earth's population is still alive.

2015 A.D.

Alien beings of unknown origin known as the "Angels" begin to make their appearance. Rendering all types of weaponry useless through the generation of an "Absolute Terror Field," the Angels face humanity's last line of defense: the Evangelion.

However, it takes a very unique person to pilot an Evangelion robot or Eva. Only 14 year-old teenagers born after the Second Impact are able to synchronize with the gigantic bio-mechanical weapons and pilot them against the Angels. And this is where Neon Genesis Evangelion begins...
