The enemy of mankind



"Angels:" The enemies of mankind which have names of angels in the old testament. There are various forms of angels. It's still unclear as to whether angels are living beings or not. Angels possess the ability to do battle, to regenerate, and produce an "Absolute Terror Field" which repels any normal attacks. The true character, objective, and relationship between the angels is still unclear.

A.T. Field

The region that forms a "protective barrier" by surrounding an area. It repels any impact, or energy. The only way to break through the field is to fuse a region with another AT field, or apply convergent ultra-high-energy. Evangelion has the ability to generate an A.T. Field.

	An angel

	A supernatural being, either good or bad, to whom are attributed 
	greater than human power, intelligence, etc.


The composing materials

It's not possible to analyze the materials by the science in 2015. According to Dr. Ritsuko Akagi, "The angels are composed of materials that have the characteristics of both particles and waves, like light." Something like a power generator was collected from the sample, but mankind still doesn't know how it works. The unique wave pattern of the angels is similar to human genes (99.89% similar), even though the material is different.

The angels appeared up to the 14th episode

The 3rd angel "Sakiel"
The first actual combat between the angel and EVA unit 1. Unit 1 became silent after damaging its head, and left arm. Later, it went berserk. EVA eroded the angel's A.T. Field and annihilated it successfully.

The 4th angel "Shamel"
Though its external power supply broke down, it destroyed the angel's core with very little time left. Nerv obtained a perfect sample of angel except for its core.

The 5th angel "Ramiel"
Carried out "Operation Yashima" by Misato Katsuragi. With EVA unit 0, Rei Ayanami's first operation. By the extempore proton rifle, terminated the angel. Although EVA-00 was heavily damaged, the pilot returned alive.

The 6th angel "Gagiel"
EVA-02, and S. Asuka Langley's first operation with Shinji Ikari. It was also the first close-range battle on the sea, and the first underwater battle. By the help of UN Navy, the angel was annihilated.

The 7th angel "Israfel"
The first angel which is able to separate and combine its two parts. Through the simultaneous attack of EVA-01 and EVA-02 against the two separated cores, the angel was successfully annihilated.

The 8th angel "Sandalfon"
Found in the crater of Mt. Asama. Nerv announced a command A-17 (top priority). Unfortunately, the capturing operation failed. The objective was changed to extermination. EVA-02 accomplished the mission successfully.

The 9th angel "Matriel"
Nerv, blacked out. Booted each Evangelion manually. By the first mission with 3 Evas, the angel was annihilated.

The 10th angel "Sahakiel"
The angel was flying from the stratosphere. By the intercept of 3 Evangelions, the angel was annihilated.

Th 11th angel ""
Intruded the headquarters of Nerv through a decayed wall. The form was considered to be similar to bacteria. Later, it intruded MAGI. Casper 3 was used to promote its mutation. The angel was annihilated. Nerv denied the occurrence.
