Star Oriental - Who's Your Favourite Star?

Dirty Pair

The Dirty Pair, Kei and Yuri, are two scantily clad and heavily armed intergalactic cops in the 22nd Century. The antics of the Dirty Pair were originally serialized in Japan's SF Magazine and later recounted in three novellas. In 1984 the duo made their animation debut with their own TV series. The series ran for 26 episodes (the last two episodes were never aired), pathetic compared to the 36 to 45 episodes many shows run. But due to enormous popularity and response from the Pair's fans three movies (two direct to video and one theatrical) and a 10 episode OAV (Original Video Animation) series were released.

Who Are They?

Kei and Yuri work for an organization called the Worlds Welfare Works Association (3WA or Three Double-u A). With mankind's rapid expansion into the galaxy his ability to deal with problems has lagged behind. The 3WA exists to provide Trouble Consultants to help solve problems when a planet's local authorities are incapable of handling the situation themselves. The 3WA provides TCs for just about any problem that can come up, from farming and terraforming to computer glitches and accounting to criminal investigations. Kei and Yuri, Trouble Consultant team code name Lovely Angels are criminal Trouble Consultants.

The nickname "Dirty Pair" is a rather unfortunate nom de guerre for the Lovely Angels, based upon their reputation. When a planetary government petitions the 3WA for help, the Association's central computer reviews all available information and selects the TC team most suited to the task; the petitioning government has no say in what team is assigned to them. It happens that every case the Angels have been sent on has turned into a major disaster, in addition to a solution to the case. In every instance the central computer has cleared the Angels of any culpability, lending credence to the duo's frequent cries, "it's not our fault!" Their cases would turn into disasters regardless of the team sent, otherwise the central computer would have pulled their IDs long ago, right? Of course this has no bearing on their public reputation.
