Story Date: Universal Century 0079
More Info: Story Synopsis, Characters, MechanicsThis original video series is, in the real world, the latest chapter in the Universal Century saga. It takes place in the same One Year War era as the original series, depicting the point of view of the common soldier rather than the cosmic adventures of newtype aces.
08th MS Team bears the distinction of being the longest-running Gundam video series. Its final episode is scheduled to be released a full three and a half years after the series began. The July 1996 death of director Takeyuki Kanda, a robot-show veteran, surely didn't help the production schedule.
Though the series proper debuted in January 1996, a preview version of the first episode was released the previous month as part of the "OVA Gundam Go! 1 Million Copies" promotion.
