March 26
Well, the day has come at last. Tonight is the final episode of the animated Kareshi Kanojo no Jijoo. Last night, it seems that Director Anno Hideaki and Animation Director Hiramatsu Tadashi celebrated the conclusion of their work with drinks all around. The bottles of wine and champagne (one of each) and the empty beer cans and drinking mugs (which I guess they drank out of) lying around the animation room today would seem proof of that. What's even more amazing, though, is that they apparently went out to do even more drinking afterwards, because Anno can really hold his liquor--though Hiramatsu is crashed at his desk as I write this... He looks pretty wasted. I hope he'll be all right (especially given that there are plans to go drinking again after tonight's broadcast).

Anyway, the broadcast run of the series ends tonight, but King Records will start shipping the LD and videocassette editions of the series as of April 2, which means that you'll be able to Yukino and company any time you like. And we hope you will.

It would mean that these diary entries would just keep coming too...

That's all for now. Love Love Happy!

Hi, it's me, Muramatsu.

When an interview is published in a magazine, the subject of said interview gets a chance to review the content prior to publication, in order to check wording, layout, what have you. This work usually takes place by fax, but take this case, for instance:
When I came to the office this morning, there was a fax on my desk of the manuscript for the Women's Staff Roundtable Conversation (see the entry for March 5, below, for details), together with a message asking for a reply by close of business today. But (Color Coordinator) Takahoshi Harumi comes to work at night, which means she's not here during the day. But when I called her at home, she said she didn't own a fax machine! On top of which, she'd also just gotten home too. I couldn't very well tell her to come over here again right away. So I read the fax to her over the phone--two A-4 size pages of cramped text...

Change of subject. The new KareKano ending theme, "Kaze Hiita Yoru (The Night I Caught Cold)", which aired tonight, will be included on "Setsu-Getsu-Ka (Snow-Moon-Flower, taken from the Chinese readings of the first Kanji of the names of the Miyazawa Sisters)", a vocal collection slated to go on sale March 26 (the same date as the final episode of the TV series). We had just been thinking about what to do for the ending theme for episode 25 when King Records sent this song over, and decided that this would be it. The album has lots of other cute songs, and I recommend it.

Next week is the final episode of KareKano, but that's still all for now. Love Love Happy.

Hi, it's me, Muramatsu.

Yesterday, Higuchi Shinji, SFX director on Gamera 3, dropped by the office. Now, do you recall, or were you aware, that Higuchi appeared as a member of Kazuma's band in KareKano episodes 12 and 13? Probably no one who recognized his voice would have imagined that that was really what he looked like. Me? I knew. If you didn't know, check out the photos on the Gamera 3 Talk Event page for photos. Take a look. The character looks just like him. (g) Oh, that reminds me, I completely forgot to say, "Lovely..." and blow a kiss. Shucks.

That's all for now. Love Love Happy.

March 5
Hi, it's me, Muramatsu.

Wednesday of this week was Girls' Day, and I took part in a round-table conversation with other female employees of GAINAX, the contents of which are slated to appear on the liner notes for KareKano LD Vol. 2.
As the (Japanese) saying goes, get three women together and you've got trouble. Well, there were six of us, led by color coordinator Takahoshi Harumi (the writer who was present was also a woman), so you can just imagine what it was like. We talked on and on, losing track of time as we ate the cake that had been brought as a gift, with high tension but no bitterness(?). If you want to know what we talked about (and if your Japanese is up to it--MH), check out the liner notes to LD Vol. 2. You'll get a peek behind the scenes at KareKano.
The writer who made up the text for this conversation took print club-style pictures of all of us with a personal instant print club machine (no, I don't know what sort of machine it is, either), and apparently these pictures will be included with the text, so check it out if you want to see what I look like. Shameless self-promotional plug.
Vol. 1 will come out before Vol. 2, however, and the jacket for Vol. 1 has yet another fantastic original illustration by Hiramatsu. Have no doubt that you'll want this one too, and start saving your allowance now (I'm screwed, though, because I don't have an LD player!)

That's all for now. Love Love Happy.
