With the explosive commercial success of "NEON GENESIS EVANGELION", Anno Hideaki has been recognized as the cutting-edge creator.
For his next feature, he has chosen "Enjo Kosai" (teenage prostitution--golddigging, 1990's Japan-style) as a theme, and live-action as a format. It was the end of last year that the Murakami Ryu novel "Love&Pop/Topaz II" went on sale, and inspired Anno Hideaki. Up to now, Murakami has not allowed anyone to adapt his books to film, but in the face of Anno's passion for the project, he readily gave his permission for the production. Many of the staff of the film had previously worked on "Evangelion": among them Screenwriter Satsugawa Akio and Executive Producer Ootsuki Toshimichi, President of King Records. The casting of the four girls who make up the main cast was handled by audition, in pursuit of verisimilitude. From over 600 applicants, Miwa Asumi, Kirari, Nakama Yukie, and Kudo Hirono were chosen. They tell a story of modern Japanese high-school girls, mainly set in the Shibuya district of Tokyo. This film deals with themes and settings unlike anything Anno has worked with before. Who knows what sort of drama will result? | ![]() |
