Summer is now over and football season has started up. What does this mean?
Exactly. No life. Therefore, work will begin again on the site to get it
more up-to-date after our summer hiatus. The rocky transition is still not
overwith as many of the scripts on the site are not functioning yet. This,
as with many other things, will be remedied shortly as time allows and things
are prioritized. One of the first things to get fixed is the subtitle
request form.
Enjoy! And if you have any questions or suggestions, please
chuck them our way!

Which is ironic considering that particular page is slated to be reorganized as soon as I can find spare time to sit down and redesign some things. At any rate, if you're looking for product codes because you want the soundtracks, look no further. :)

We recently placed online two samples in MPEG2 format, one of the original opening theme, and the other of the original ending theme. We've had some people mention that they get garbage when they play them. After some testing, it would appear that Netscape enjoys eating these things for snacks. We have tried downloading them from the site via another FTP client and playing them locally and everything works fine. If you use Netscape to either play the songs through a plugin, or if you download it with the left-shift, click method, you will find that the songs sound garbled. Why this is, I haven't a clue. Perhaps Netscape is adding compression where it shouldn't which is messing up the MPEG2 encoding. Whatever the case, we are working on trying to make this available somehow. If someone has an FTP site they wouldn't mind volunteering, that would be super spiffy...
Look for a new-look homepage in the next little while...

In addition to the music page, we have updated the episode guide to include episode titles up to 50. As always, we are working on getting synopses and other things in there for them as we find time. If you'd like to contribute where you find things missing, by all means, please send stuff our way!
A special thanks to Yasuyuki Sato for his translations of the themes as well as his wonderful work on translating the Kodocha episodes which we are subtitling! We can't tell him how much we appreciate his efforts! If you would like to receive information about obtaining copies, then please visit our subtitle availability page. We are almost finished Volume 2 (episodes 1-8).

Episode Guide Being Filled-out
I have added several pages to the episode guide to fill it out until episode
85. I have to give a hearty thanks to Mr. Sato from the Kodocha mailing list
for compiling the Japanese list. We have yet to put up translations for
those episode titles, but with a little patience, I should have that done
shortly. You will also notice that the broken images are gone. They were
a relic of the server move. I hadn't re-generated the database from the old
site yet, and as it happens the database had problems on the old server so I
had to upgrade the operating system. Suffice to say, it's fine now.
We Now Have a Faster Connection!
The site is now on a 10Mbps machine which connects directly to
UUNET Canada's 45Mbps backbone. Lots o'
bandwidth! The transition as you may have noticed over the summer has been
a rocky one. For the past month or so, graphics have not been especially...uhm...*present*... I've been able to fix most of it, though the rest will follow
in short order.
New Episode Guide
Talk about no life... I spent a beautiful Saturday afternoon working on getting the new episode guide working. Why? I'm still trying to convince myself that it was because I'd otherwise never get around to it, but it's sounding less and less plausible as time passes. Hopefully everybody thinks it's an improvement over the previous format. I'd love to hear your comments!
Soundtrack Availability Page Updated
I just got my hands on Kodocha Soundtrack volume 2, so have updated the information on the soundtrack availability page. While I was at it, I also took the opportunity to shrink the images and make it a little more presentable.
New Introduction and MPEG2 Problems
Well, the renovations continue, and the most recent victim of an update was the introduction page. The one that was there was something I wrote after watching about 4 episodes, and since I don't understand much Japanese speech, a lot of it was incorrect. So, I've opted for a more general approach to introducing the series. (If you have any comments about it, good or bad, please send them my way! -Mike)
Subs Available and Our New Music Page!
As we move towards a different look for the site, we're trying to gradually change things and update things as we go. The first page that received an update and facelift was the music page which now contains lyrics for both opening and ending themes. In the next week or so, we will be adding songs that appear throughout the series. We've also included resampled MPEG2 versions of the first opening and ending themes (the original ones we put up were corrupted). MPEG2 versions of the new themes will be up when we receive the second soundtrack CD.
Mailing List Back Online, New Synopses and Other Stuff
After sorting out some of the hardware problems I've had on my local network here, I now have the mailing list back online. This also allows us to put all of the development material online which we had done on the media machine. The index page needs to be updated for the epuisode guide, but we have put up almost a dozen new synopses which will become evident in the next 24 hours when the index for the ep. guide is built. Some people have commented that the MPEG2 opening and ending themes sound like crap. Before we put them up they were fine, but something must have happened when they went up because they sound like a geiger counter. We are in the process of re-sampling those tunes and will have them up shortly, as with the new themes.
Interactive Kodocha Goes Live!
It's taken a bit, but the Interactive Kodocha feature has finally taken its baby steps as we introduce the Kodocha Mailing List. Unfortunately, the subs didn't happen this weekend due to time constraints, but you can be sure the announcement will come out on the list. We anticipate this coming weekend or the next at the latest. We're also doing a site makeover in the next month, so stuff might not be updated as readily (or not) as usual.
