Also, battles are notably harder. Only 3x for protect which is a good
decision by Sega/Red. Bosses start out with charged "super" meters.
There's an added element of the four formations(earth wind fire forest).
The first time I played ST2, I didn't fiddle with those formations. But
the 2nd time through I tried it out... and I don't know how I played w/o
it. Just give it a chance and I'm sure you'll be using it every battle as
well. And as Otaking said, being able to take back moves is a TREMENDOUS
improvement over the first. There's also different objectives such as
protecting "this" or destroying "that" in battles as opposed to just
killing the enemy.
But, on the downside, one thing I don't like about ST2 battles are the
graphics. I like the fact that the background is more active(like little
people running around, my favorite part of ST). I like the fact that the
graphics are bigger. But... everything is more blocky as opposed to the
curvatures in ST. Just look at the Koubu. Also, they took out the 2
different kinds of attacks from ST. You know how you could slash once for
a normal attack with Sakura, and at random, you could do a double slash or
something? They replaced it with double-team attacks in ST2. It
functions the same, but I miss seeing different animation.
I guess that's my 2 cents on the battles.
