Most knowledgeable anime fans know this. And most that do, know why.
However, ADV used to charge $24.95 for their dubs, and $29.95 for their subs
(all to my chagrin because I like some of the stuff ADV puts out, but my
pockets aren't that deep). If Sakura Taisen represents a change in ADV's
pricing policy, you can see that the price rift between the two formats has
grown by about another 20%.
Perhaps we can infer that anime fandom has grown, and most of the new fans
that are just getting into things buy dubs, but the number of sub watchers
has remained relatively unchanged?
A pitty actually. Excessive dub popularity, and anti-sub prejudice *CAN*
lead to americanization (<cough cough> Victor Ireland <cough cough>), and I
feel that the American's aren't getting what the japanese intended. Matt
Greenfield and John Ledford over at ADV have already had the whistle blown
on them by Anime Radio, because they put Loony Toon refferences in the
Slayers Movie dub.
Well anyways, just get the sub. Save the complaining for those times when
you have no choice. ^_-
