I wouldn't say it tarnished it...it did very well and got great reviews.
But it doesn't resemble any of the FF games before, except in the most basic
terms in the battle system.

You have to remember the KoF series are arcade fighters and thus can be
found and played very easily, whereas the ST games are console-based...that
makes a big difference.
