I first got interested in the Saturn a little over a year ago when a friend
of mine showed me a Gamefan magazing with a one-page article on Tengai Makyou
IV (also by RED). I was quickly impressed, and as a result I ordered some
package deal from Tommo (I think) which came with a US Saturn, a cheap
converter cart, a twin stick, and a few games. Among those games was an
import version of Fighting Vipers, inside which was "Sega Saturn Soft
Information Vol. 7." Inside that, in an approximately 3"x1" space in the
corner, was a small ad for Sakura Taisen (with the release date "this
September"),
featuring a screenshot of Kohran and another of the Gorai-go spiraling around.
I was impressed with these two pics and immediately searched through the body
text, with what minimal Japanese knowledge I had at the time, for further
information. I was further amazed to pull out "Tengai Makyou producer
Hiroi Ouji"
- an interesting coincidence as Tengai Makyou was just about the only other
Saturn import I had at the time, "Character Designer Fujishima Kousuke" -
whose
OMG manga and art I loved, and - the final point - "main character Sakura
played
by famous seiyuu Yokoyama Chisa-san." Immediately I knew I had to get it.
I had no other information on the game, mind you, than this, and had no
modem and
no game magazines to provide me any more. I instantly fell in love with
the game
as soon as the intro played and sat there for about half an hour watching it,
over and over again, before finally playing. ^_^ I was further surprised
to find
Ming's page later and how enormous a fan following the game had when no one
had
even provided an English translation. And, through much unrequited labor,
I set
to work translating it myself, learning Japanese at the same time and
ending up
a little unsatisfied with my results. But anyway, that's how I got into the
game.
