It probably depends on the DVD player. The mainstream
stand-alone units in the U.S. probably won't let you change
the region code unless you open them up (although I'm sure
there are workarounds with some of them), but the one I'm
planning on buying is the Creative Labs PC-DVD Encore DXR2
(under $200, according to Compusanet.com). I found info
on it at <http://www.brouhaha.com/~eric/video/dvd/encore/>
which indicates there is a program that will allow you to
view DVDs from all regions with that drive. If that doesn't
work I'll just leave my drive set to region 2. ^_^; And
then there's <http://www.codefreedvd.com/> which sells DVD
players that play DVDs from all regions, albeit at very
high prices ($1000+).

If I'm wrong here, please let me know. Does anyone know
if the above program I mentioned will work for the new
Dxr3? If so, I'd probably get that instead......

Oh, and there's an extensive DVD faq at
<http://www.videodiscovery.com/vdyweb/dvd/dvdfaq.html>.
