Let's start with a scene
from the first episode. Van has just killed a dragon near
Hitomi's school and removed the energist from it's body.
Hitomi approaches him to ask if he is alright, Van tells her
he doesn't need her to worry about him. Hitomi slaps him for
being so arrogant and ungrateful, especially after she
helped him even though she had been very frightened. (Wish I
had a picture of that. ^_-) Suddenly, the energist in Van's
hand begins to glow! The pair find themselves enveloped in a
column of light similar to the one in which Van arrived in.
A moment later they are floating into the air, headed for
Gaea. And so it began... ^_^

This is a really cute scene
from the second episode in which a rather shocked Lum (a
wolf-man) asks Van if he has really been to the Illusional
Moon. Van, rather offhandedly, confirms that he has been
there and affirms Lum's deduction that Hitomi is from the
Illusional Moon. Van's nonplussed attitude makes this scene
so hilarious. Van acts as if this other world he's just been
to is nothing more than a neighboring town where he had to
pick something up, and Hitomi is just an unexpected
inconvenience, like a kitten that's followed him home.
Meanwhile, Hitomi justs sits there, slightly stunned by the
unbelievable situation she finds herself in.

In this scene from episode
three, Hitomi and Van have been restricted to a locked and
guarded room by Allen to keep them out trouble. They have
just been visited by a rather unexpected guest, the mole man
has just come up through the floor of their room! Hitomi
recognizes him as the man who attacked her from the day
before. Van is a bit suprised when Hitomi calls the mole man
a "molester. " In fact, the looks on their faces in that
scene are priceless. ^_^ I wish I had a picture of that
moment, which occurs just a few seconds after the image in
this picture.
This scene occurs soon after
the last one. Van and Hitomi are following the mole man
through the tunnels below the fort. Van is in search of
Escaflowne. The mole man takes them to the place where the
Astorian Guymelfs are stored and there they find Escaflowne.
Hitomi asks Van what he is going to do. He matter-of-factly
tells her, as he climbs into Escaflowne, that he is going
back to Fanelia. She begins to protest, because of what
Allen had said before, about Fanelia being completely
destroyed and that they shouldn't leave the fort. Van isn't
paying any attention to her though. It's kind of funny to
watch an annoyed Hitomi chasing after and scolding this huge
Guymelf. ^_^

This is my favorite moment
from episode four. Hitomi and Merle both had fevers because
of some seeds from the forest that got into their wounds.
Van had left the room without saying a word and when he
returned he had brought medicine he had made with some type
of plant. Hitomi watches as he applys the medicine to
Merle's wounds and she seems suprised by what he's done. She
is even more suprised when he comes over to apply the
medicine to her wounds. Hitomi is quite touched by Van's
thoughful act. It's a really sweet moment. I think up to
that point, Hitomi had thought Van was kind of
self-absorbed.

O.K., here we have one of my all time favorite scenes, I
just absolutely love it every time I see it. ^_^ In
episode six, Van, Hitomi and Merle have been brought to
Astoria by Allen. There they meet Princess Millerna.
Millerna thinks Hitomi's clothes are not at all appropriate
for an aquaintance of Allen's, so Millerna gives Hitomi one
of her dresses. When Hitomi comes out wearing the dress,
Millerna tells her it looks very nice on her and Merle makes
a smart remark, which, of course, irritates Hitomi. But the
best reaction is Van's, he doesn't say a word, he just
stares at her in shocked suprise, because she looks so
pretty. ^_^ Hitomi doesn't notice because she is busy
arguing with Merle, whom Van silences without ever taking
his eyes off Hitomi. I believe this is the first scene that
really shows how much Van already likes Hitomi. ^_^

Another cool scene from
episode six. Van is confronting Folken about his alignment
with the Zaibach forces at a bridge in the Astorian harbor.
Unknown to both of them Dilandau is watching from the Vione,
preparing to fire on Van. Hitomi had a horrible vision about
Van and is rushing to find him. She realizes that her long
skirt is slowing her down and tears it to make it shorter.
Dilandau fires the Alseides' lance, but before it can hit
Van, Hitomi arrives yelling for him to watch out and then
knocking him out of the way. Van is extremely suprised that
Hitomi came to save him, I don't think he was aware that she
cared enough to do something like that. Hitomi, on the other
hand, is just very glad she made it in time.
