Even though the series has ended, it is still one of the funniest comics out. The story started out as centered around the uncontrollable Sakuragi Hanamichi and his joining the Shohoku basketball team to impress a girl, Akagi Haruko, but towards the end of the series it gave equal emphasis to all five star members of the Shohoku basketball team. Sakuragi and Rukawa Kaede are the coolest characters, though I like Mitsui and Sendoh too. The pages I have found on Slam Dunk are pretty comprehensive and I have only tried to add to that pile of information. The series ended on the thirty-first volume with Shohoku being defeated in the third round of the national championships. The TV series ended a little earlier than that, right before they were to head off to the nationals tournament and it follows the manga almost word for word (particularly during the games) though it has expanded on or added things not in the manga.
