    Ushio and Tora --created by Kazuhiro Fujita

    A very long story that has evolved in an interesting way in the manga version. Ushio is a fourteen year old boy who lives with his father, a priest, at their temple. Ushio finds a beast (Tora) imprisoned beneath the shrine one day, held there by a spear. By motivations clear in the OVA and manga too long to explain here, Ushio pulls out the spear and frees the beast, which starts the story. The spear also gives Ushio the power to kill all sorts of monsters besides making his hair grow really long. The really big plot that looms above all the tiny subplots is that Ushio goes off to find out his mother's secret. It ends up she is involved in holding back a giant killer-beast called the Hakumen no mono. Haven't read what happens after this.
