Taishaku-ten's "most treasured thing" and his sole reason for living was his promise made to Ashura-Ou -- to never allow Ashura from turning into the Real Ashura, or, if he failed, to kill Ashura.  In return, Ashura gave Taishaku-ten his "most treasured thing" -- himself.
