The Infirmary, which has become a second home to many recently, is relatively quiet. Everyone is fast asleep, the nurse on duty has conveniently dozed off, but any noise might wake her. Nanami is in a worse situation. After several escape attempts by herself, the staff have, sadly, been forced to restrain her wrists, making it unable for her to move. She lies quietly on her bed, staring at the ceiling blankly, exhausted from struggling with the restraints, but unable to sleep. Utena approaches the outer wall of the infirmary, glancing up the vine-covered walls and pondering how she can get up it..her hands are still a little sore/hurting from the rockclimbing to the castle under the city, her ankle hurts tremendously from the cavein... but she grasps hold of some of the thicker vines, carefully, hoping they won't give under her weight.. she only has to make it one floor up to the window.. Kiryuu Nanami, in her somewhat semi-dazed/semi-attentive state, hears noise from the open window.. She does not respond however, not wanting to wake the nurse. Could it be Utena? She did promise to help her escape... Utena clambers through the window, wriggling her hips through the open space of about two feet... exhaling as she drops onto the floor..not really thinking about being silent, unfortunately. Kiryuu Nanami rolls her eyes, before letting out a rather loud 'Shhhhhhhhhhh!' She glares at Utena angrily. "Do you want to wake the entire school? You're trying to break me out, not get me stuck in here for even longer." Utena straightens up and blinks."Sa.. gomen.." she rubs at the back of her pink-thatched head before glancing at you... her innocent blue eyes opening wide at the sight of your bound wrists... she moves over. Kiryuu Nanami sighs softly as you notice the straps. "I got restless. I hate this place. I tried to get out on my own, but they caught me and tied me up." Utena bites her lip and kneels down, her fingers prying carefully at the straps, gently unbuckling them- not really a problem for her coming in from the outside... but she tries to be careful not to rattle the metal parts. Kiryuu Nanami, as she is really unable to be anything but a complete smart-ass at the most inopportune times.. murmurs. "Where've you been? I was waiting -forever-." Utena circles around the bed and starts to undo your other wrist..'You wouldn't beliee me if I told you.." she breathes quietly. Kiryuu Nanami raises her eyebrows, blinking. "Try me?" Utena undoes the second strap. "Under the school." Kiryuu Nanami asks, "Hontou ni? What's there?" Kiryuu Nanami sits up, twisting her sore wrists, then instinctively caressing her still injured ribs. Utena whispers mysteriously, "The past.." Freeing your last wrist she offers her ringed hand to you to help you stand. "C'mon..." Kiryuu Nanami blinks for a moment, then, almost reluctantly, she takes the ringed hand with a hand of her own.. one that bears no ring, as she has not recieved her new signet from her brother yet. She grips your hand tightly, pulling.. Utena is rock-solid, almost statuesque, making it easy for you to stand up, though it may be more painful than you anticipate.. her azure eyes flicker toward the door, nervous of sound bringing someone into the scene. She steps close to you, ready to support you., hisses softly, "Are you going to be able to move okay?" move. Kiryuu Nanami is being aided.. supported.. by you. She's relying on you right now, and she hates it. Completely. Slowly, she nods. "As long as we aren't going through the window, I should be." Utena nods, wrapping one slender arm around your lower back.. She's not too much happier about this than you are, but she made a promise, and a prince must keep her promises. She bears the burden of your additional weight and guides you toward the open, uncurtained and unblocked doorway... moving slow. "Take it easy.." she mutters.. Kiryuu Nanami nods, shuffling along beside you, not wanting to move -too- quickly, as her ribs are sore even from this small amount of movement. She moves along with you, bare feet not making much noise at all. Utena pauses in the doorway, glancing about herself cautiously, particularly across the front reception room and the admissions desk.. Kiryuu Nanami whispers, carefully, as softly as she can.. "The nurse on duty right now is bloody lazy. She's always sleeping at her post. We might have lucked out." Utena nods, her lips set tight, and her attention focused on getting out of the door.. easing into the reception room, crossing the area behind the desk.. Kiryuu Nanami doesn't even lift her feet. The bare soles glide along the tiled floor without sound as they sneak past.. Utena continues to move slowly, almost holding her breath, an agonizingly LONG process... finaly moving to stand before the double doors, the last barrier to your freedom.. she eyes the door for a moment, looking for a latch or lock, hoping there's not keys required to unlock it. Luckily, on the inside, there -is- a latch, as the designers didn't expect the patients to be trying to escape. Utena bites her lip and goes for the latch, reaching her free hand out toward it.. trying to move it as carefully and quietly as she can... eyes furrowed. Still no sound, save the faint snoring of the nurse at the desk. Utena pushes the door open, a blast of cold air from the night beyond assaulting yourself and her, and the breeze cries out through the empty reception room.. At -this-, the nurse begins to stir, waking from her slumber, blinking quickly, trying to regain her senses. "Huh.. what's going on?" Utena o.O's and whips her head back, looking nervously behind herself... "Crap, *move*.." she hisses to the blonde girl she's supporting... hastily pushing first Nanami than herself through the opened door... Kiryuu Nanami nods quickly, following, moving as fast as she can in her injured state.. The nurse curses, jumping up, realizing who just escaped.. Utena pulls Nanami with her and tries to hurry as best she can, but Nanami is too injured to move QUICKLY and Utena herself has a slight limp you didn't notice before now, when she's trying to move quickly.. The nurse appears at the doorway, ready to chase, screaming out loudly for the pair to stop. Kiryuu Nanami takes initiative now, and suddenly -yanks- Utena, pulling her rapidly, ducking onto a side path. Utena o.O's and is yanked along by the other girl... at Nanami's sudden burst of strength the pink-haired Duellist is taken very much off guard.. her eyes open wide as she follows Nanami closely into a shadow under one of the guarding trees.. Kiryuu Nanami stops, remaining in the shadows, drawing back further into them... she gestures for you to do the same. Kiryuu Nanami ducks down, clenching her teeth in sharp pain, as she scoops something from the ground. She raises.. and waits. Utena shrinks back as best she can, unthinkingly *close* to Nanami, breathing rapidly from the fear of being caught.. but her black jacket helps to completely veil her... The Nurse appears nearby, close to the two hiding figure.. too close. Nanami then swings her arm with all her might, but still, with barely any sound. She tosses a small stone across the path.. as far as she can, away from them. The nurse hears the sounds, and immediately runs to the source, leaving Nanami and Utena alone. Utena *whews* softly after a moment.. Kiryuu Nanami sighs deeply.. "That worked.." Utena stands back from you, her hand lightly resting on one of your shoulders she removes in haste. "Hai.." Kiryuu Nanami looks at you expectantly. "Where are we going now..?" Utena says, "They'll look for you in your room.. and mine.." Utena bites her lip, closing her eyes in the dark for a moment. "I'm not sure where to go." Kiryuu Nanami sighs. "We can't go back to my place. Onisama's probably there.. and he'll kill me if he sees me out.." Utena says, "We can go back to my old dorm, I guess. I took Arisugawa-sempai there last night.." Utena says, "Hopefully they won't think to look there." Kiryuu Nanami says, "Doubtful.." Kiryuu Nanami smirks. "Who'd expect me me to be hanging around with you?" Kiryuu Nanami says, "Speaking of which, before anything, we gotta agree on something, Utena-san." Utena blinks and nods? turning her eyes toward you, seeking yours in the dim shadowlight... Utena says, "What is it..?" Kiryuu Nanami extends a hand. "Look.. something bad's going on here.. and obviously we have to take care of it, so I'm going to call a -TEMPORARY- truce." You feel Utena's fingers meeting yours and closing warmly about them for a moment. "Hai. Truce for now, Nanami-san." For once using a respectful honorific.. something that might, or might not, escape you. "We'll need each other's help anyway for a little while." She slides gently back to your side and eases your arm over her shoulders, once again taking the lion's share of your weight upon herself. "C'mon, let's get out of the cold, it can't be helping your injuries." Kiryuu Nanami nods, and slowly slips an arm around your waist, for support.. as she walks along with you, to your room.. Utena limps along with Nanami back along the path leading to the back of the school and the 'haunted' dorm she used to inhabit with Himemiya... fighting to keep her own pain in her injured leg from showing to you as she 'saves' you, and leads you into her old dorm room. However, to her surprise.. Arisugawa-sempai is also waiting there... Utena blinks deeply for several moments, a flicker of gratefulness/relief/worry/hopefulness at her sempai's appearance... then realizes there's going to be a SLIGHT space/bed problem.. easily enough solved however.. as she helps Nanami into the bottom of the bunk-bed to let her rest there.. Utena, herself, will take the floor tonight... Arisugawa Juri glances at the two new arrivals, standing from the desk she was sitting at. She gazes over Nanami's form, looking back to Utena, "Are you alright?" Utena nods faintly, her breathing coming hard out of her mouth as she presses a hand to her chest.. wincing as she steps back from the lower half of the bunk bed... moving to the low table in the center of the room, sitting down and removing her shoes and socks to show a miserably purple and swollen ankle... hissing softly as she touches the bruise. Arisugawa Juri sighs softly, walking towards a bag she brought to the dorm.. apparently she made a trip to her room before coming back, "I told you to wrap that before you went off.." she removes bandaging strip and a metal clip from a pocket, and kneels by your foot, taking it gently in her hand. She examines it a moment and then tenderly starts to wrap it protectively. Utena O.o Arisugawa Juri glances up at you, "I knew you wouldn't listen." Utena fights the urge both to laugh (she's ticklish on the feet) and to jerk her foot back from your hand.. a faint pink color rising to her cheeks as you lift her ankle and tend to it with such gentle motions.. she didn't expect this... she shakes her head.. "I didn't have time, sempai.." she swallows with a weak voice... "I'm sorry." Utena says, "I promised Nanami I'd help her out of the infirmary, and they had manacled her. So I didn't have a chance to tend to the foot.." She winces a bit as you move the bandage over her skin a little too tight in a spot. Arisugawa Juri nods vaguely, loosening the bandage as she notices your reaction.. before cutting off the end and clipping it with the toothed metal piece. "Hai.. just be careful on it. If you want to complete your plan, you need it to heal, Utena-san." Utena exhales all at once... emptying her lungs completely before drawing in a new, long breath. "I know..." She hesitates for a moment, before pulling her foot back from your light grasp to stretch it out along the floor, leaning back on her hands, and feeling that embarrassing warmth in her cheeks. Those soft, childish eyes looking somewhere else as she mutters, "I'm surprised that you came back here, sempai." Arisugawa Juri she watches you stretch your foot, gauging how she thinks the banage will hold up and then stands and moves back to her bag, returning the tools in silence. She looks a lot better.. a bath, fresh clothes, and rest most likely helped, along with the application of makeup over her still healing bruises. She walks back to the table, sitting opposite of you as she takes in your comment, "When I returned to my room it had been tampered with. Someone is apparently looking for me, so I didn't think it would be wise to stay there. But don't worry, I also took great care that no one saw me come here, either." Utena sighs, "I didn't... Nanami and I were in a hurry and I couldn't move her over uneven terrain, so someone might have seen us..." She shakes her head, leaning forward and resting her head on the table. "I hope not.. but I can't guard against everything at all times.." Utena says, "The nurse saw me helping her away from the infirmary, so I'm probably in big trouble now." Arisugawa Juri blinks.. and nods, "Well, that can't be helped now." Utena nods. Utena says, "You can have the top of the bed, I'll take the floor tonight, Arisugawa-sempai..." gesturing toward the upper of the two mattresses, as Nanami is quite immobile in the other, passed out from the exertion. Utena herself doesn't look too grand, either. She reaches for the tiny portable television box, a shockingly illegal item on campus, and flicks on the black and white screen. A staticy picture comes to life, eventually clearing up enough to reveal some kind of news report. Utena is ignoring it, it's basically background noise as she wearily glances toward the older student. "Sempai.. would it be wrong of me to ask you a favor..?" Arisugawa Juri's eyes are already upon you as she blinks, "It depends. What favor?" Utena says, "Can you go to the West Wing and bring Yamaguchi Kei here? She's in room 49... I really need to talk to her. If it's too much trouble, I can try and go myself...maybe.. I guess I should just do that instead... it's rude of me to ask you." Utena starts to sit up, rubbing at exhausted eyes, and reaching for her socks and shoes. Arisugawa Juri glances at you with a mixture of curiousity and confusion.. she shakes her head, "Iie. I won't let you go." Utena blinks, pinkening yet again. She searches your eyes intently for a moment. Arisugawa Juri looks just as intently into yours, "If you want her to come here, then I will go get her. But I won't have you going out there after just breaking someone out of the Infirmary. They may still be looking for you." She stands and heads towards the hall, noting, "Besides.. I want you to stay off that foot." and disappears past the door, the sound of her footsteps down the stairs followed by silence. Utena gazes after the taller girl in some astonishment, blinking several times before a faint, thankful smile touches those small lips.. Kei is sitting in her dorm, going over a large pile of notes she's made on the duelling records that Touga has her reviewing. Arisugawa Juri reaches the West wing after carefully staying within shadows and side paths, and approaches room 49. She takes a moment before raising her hand and rapping upon the door with the back of it. Kei calls out. "Come in..." Arisugawa Juri curls her fingers around the doorknob and turns it, opening the door wide. The noteable fencing captain looks upon you with her more usual apathetic air as she inquires, "Yamaguchi Kei?" Kei nods. "Hai..." She gazes at the older girl for a moment before recognition strikes; this is one of the long-standing council members, the duelling club captain. What would she want with Kei? Arisugawa Juri crosses her arms over her chest and continues, "Ten'jou Utena requests to see you." Kei blinks. "Utena..? Why didn't she come here, then?" Something occurs to her. "Is she in some sort of trouble that would prevent her from coming?" Arisugawa Juri asks, "I prefered her to stay where she was. She will most likely tell you what she wishes you to know when she sees you. So, will you please come with me?" Kei hesitates for a moment, then nods. "Hai." . o ( There's no immediate reason not to trust her; Utena considers her one of the more trustworthy council members, and if Utena does really need me... ) "But first, is there anything you can tell me? Is she all right?" Arisugawa Juri nods, turning to exit the door once more, "Hai, she's fine at the moment. She simply has a swollen ankle and I didn't want her to walk on it. Anything else, she'll tell you on her own." Kei nods. "All right." She stands up from the desk, but then stops and gathers the sheaf of papers she was working with, and slips it into a folder under her arm. Not quite sure WHY, but feeling that keeping her notes with her might not be a bad idea. Kei turns back and heads towards the dorm room door, waiting to follow Juri's lead once outside. Arisugawa Juri leads you out of the west wing and through dark side paths.. away from the bright lit areas and dorms, but in enough familiar landscape so as to not be ambushed by those thugs again. Finally you reach the old haunted dorm, and she begins up the steps to its' entrance. Kei pauses, looking up at the dorm. . o ( Why would Utena want to meet here? ) But she follows Juri quietly, with only a slight hesitation. Arisugawa Juri continues her silence as you walk up the stairs to the second floor... past the deserted and horribly kept rooms. She walks down the hall until meeting one door which she opens for you to enter. There's a light from it, and the sound of a television or radio perhaps.. Kei steps into the doorway, gazing into the room within. Utena glances up from the table, and smiles a tired but genuine smile at the brown-haired girl, and at her sempai's safe return. "Hi.." Arisugawa Juri walks in after you, closing the door behind her.. nodding faintly towards Utena in reply. It's not that dissimilar from your current room, Kei, except for the bunk bed at the right-hand wall.. the bottom of which is currently occupied by a snoring Nanami. Kei moves over next to her friend in concern. "What's wrong, Utena?" She places a folder she's been carrying on the table, to free up her hands. Utena sighs, not really even knowing how or where to begin.. Utena just.. reaches out, blindly, her arms for the other girl... Kei moves over to give her friend a comforting hug, knowing that sometimes actions are more important than any words. Arisugawa Juri blinks at Utena.. and gives the two one last glance before moving past them mutely for the bunkbed. Utena closes her arms tightly around Kei's neck and buries her head in the other girl's shoulder, shaking a little, flow of shoulder-length pink hair bobbing against her back... Kei quietly caresses Utena's hair, smoothing it back and trying to comfort the upset girl. "Just relax. I'm here and I'll help any way I can..." Utena rubs her forehead from side to side in the former Shinsei Duellist's shoulder, before pulling back and regarding her friend with a gaze of tormented pity. Blue eyes misted slightly as she lets her real emotion show to this one person closer to her t han almost anyone else.. except herself... as she shakes her head in a slow side to side motion.. Utena says, "There's so much I have to tell you.. I don't even know how to start, Kei.." Kei says, "It's all right... take your time if you need to." Utena can't stop herself this time, no amount of effort of will could do it, as she reaches for Kei's hand and intertwines her fingers with the other girl's... gazing at her so intently for a moment.. before she finally lowers her eyes and takes a long breath, ready to drop the bomb... hoping Kei can stand the impact. "I found out the truth about ... about the shinsei, Kei." Kei blinks. "The truth...? What do you mean?" Utena says, "You believed in the phoenix.. but... I know the truth. I've seen it. The phoenix... was Ootori." Kei says, "Ootori... the school? I don't understand. The Ootori duellists fight for the Ends of the Earth. The Shinsei duellists... we opposed the sekai no hate." Utena says, "No, you didn't, Kei. You didn't.." Utena says, "Sempai and I... we found a secret passage leading to ruins under the school. The ruins.. were of the *original* academy.. it was destroyed by fire, long ago, and this school was built on top of its remains." Kei stares at Utena, but remains quiet, listening to try to absorb all this. Utena says, "LIke a phoenix. Ootori *means* phoenix. And the school burned itself down to be reborn from the ashes. Just as the Ends of the Earth made you into their tools to cause the Ootori duellists to be reborn to fight for revolution again." Utena says, "You were never free of us.. .you were *part* of us all along. The rebirth was a lie.. another manipulation from the Ends of the Earth." Utena says, "You were *serving* their goals by opposing us." Kei shakes her head. "It can't be true..." Her voice is a hoarse whisper. "It can't be... Miki-sempai believed so strongly..." Utena says, "It was all part of their game, Kei..." Utena exclaims, "I wish I was lying to you. I really DO!" Utena says, "But it's the truth. The Ootori duellists were aimless.. the Ends of the Earth wanted to create fire.. stir up the duellists here... so they manufactured the shinsei." Utena adds with unmistakable bitterness, "Just like they're doing now. Just like they've always done." Kei gazes down at the table, unable to speak to make any sort of response. She merely shakes her head slightly, shoulders quivering slightly with suppressed emotion. Utena says, "I've been helping them too.. I realized that when I was down there under the ground." Utena says, "Everything I've done has been for their benefit. Everything ANY of us do." Utena shakes with the same anger, outrage, humiliation that must be ricocheting through the former Shinsei duellist's mind... "But I don't have a choice.. not while they are hurting us like this.. while they've got Himemiya sealed away from me.." Kei mumbles something to herself. "All a lie... it was all a lie..." Utena nods slowly, agonized. "And not just that it was all a lie. I saw something else down there..." She glances at Juri for a moment, strangely... "The thing that made me scream."' Utena says, "Kei... you can't... can't imagine..." Arisugawa Juri's laying silent and still upon the top bunk, her face against the wall. You can't tell if she's awake or not. Kei looks up at Utena, still listening. But now the fire that was in her eyes - the will to fight and oppose the sekai no hate - is gone, or dimmed so far it's nearly invisible. The embers buried under the sand of the pain of betrayal. Then Utena's next words may revive that flame.. because you can see her fury almost utterly consuming those blue eyes.. as she hoarsely whispers, "The original school was sacrificed. All its students then were burned alive and killed to make way for the Ends of the Earth to take control of it. They were *looking* at me... I saw them down there... running, screaming.. begging me to help them. Utena says, "Whatever the original purpose of Ootori Gakuen was... it was DESTROYED by the Ends of the Earth.. twisted around to become this place that exists now as a shell to hide the revolutionary game." Kei stares for a moment, uncomprehending, then gazes down again. "So... that explains it." She gestures at the folder she dropped on the table earlier. "My notes on the duelling records. I felt a need to bring them along tonight, but I didn't know why ...I just didn't feel I should leave them behind. What I was trying to discover was why there was a noticable break in the records, almost as if something had been omitted." Utena nods slowly, the import sinking in. "Kei.. I'm not even sure this school is *real*." Utena says, "When I think about it... there are things that.. don't seem right, sometimes." Utena rubs her hand tightly against her temples. "Now I sound crazy..." she moans low. Kei makes a small noise, a sort of choking sob. "SOME things that don't seem right? This whole school isn't right." Utena gaps softly, taking in air through those small lips, and leans forward, putting her arms tightly around you, holding you close, trying to be comforting. "I know... I know.." she finally says... letting the rest of her dark thoughts remain unspoken for now.. she's hurt you enough for one night. Kei clings to Utena... this time, she's the one in need of comfort. Her righteous opposition to the sekai no hate has been proved to be pointless; a futile effort based on a lie intended to benefit those she thought she opposed. Utena brushes the backs of her hands gently along your cheeks reddened with anger and pain, and sighs softly. "I hurt you.. I'm sorry... I could have not told you that truth..." she glances down, before kissing your forehead gently. "I should have thought a little more before I shot my mouth off." Kei shakes her head, still clinging to Utena... In a pained, hoarse tone she replies, "No. Better to know the truth than keep living illusion..." But she doesn't look up; her eyes don't meet Utena's. Utena feels that broken tone deep within her heart, and squeezes her eyes shut to fight off sudden tears, as she holds you closely, her private confusions and embarrassments shoved aside in the face of pain... she who is prince must not put her own emotions before the needs of those she has to save.. so all her being focuses now on trying to soothe you, comfort you, exude her care of you. She rests her cheek next to yours and nuzzles inward very slightly; is her scent of roses suddenly stronger, or is that in your mind..? She sighs, and tries to pull out your pain through herself. Utena says, "I'm sorry, Kei.. I'm sorry I hurt you." Utena says, "Of all people.. I didn't want you to be hurt." Kei shakes her head. "The truth may hurt where illusion comforts, but in the long run, the illusion will only hurt more than the truth." She looks up, now meeting your gaze, and you can see that despite the pain, anger and despair in her eyes, she means what she said. Utena nods slowly, releasing her arms from about you as you seem to be strong enough now to stand on your own again... taking a breath to center herself, the pink-haired girl rubs at the back of her neck, now feeling her shyness again, hesitations. Kei sighs. "I don't know what I should do now, though. It was all a lie... where do I go from here?" Utena says, "We have to play along for now.. until we can find a way to break the illusions once and for all.." Utena says, "As long as they have Himemiya, my hands are tied. I can't not go along with what they want me to be doing." Utena says, "But... for now, Kei.. I think we both need to sleep.." Utena says, "I'm afraid that sempai and Nanami have the beds, so we get the floor.. but... stay with me... " Ending on a plaintive note with her last words.. "It's safer when we're all together." Kei had turned for the door, but now turns back. An odd emotion in her eyes... on top of the pain, you can see surprise and... relief? Maybe Utena isn't the only one who doesn't want to be alone tonight. Utena smiles faintly, as she simply sinks back first to her elbows, then onto her back, gazing up at the ceiling as she stretches out on the carpet, resting her hands behind her head as a kind of pillow. Thankfully, it's not a cold night, though the wind howls outside, even in this old building the insulation drives back the draft, making it a comfortable temperature.. she just gazes up for a while... Kei quietly moves over to take a spot on the floor near Utena... lost in her own thoughts. Utena shuts her eyes, engulfing her sight in darkness.. the same darkness within her mind. How can she fight the Ends of the Earth when she has to play along for Himemiya's sake..? How can she break through the illusion to the truth...? She doesn't know.. . and no inspiration comes to her... leaving her quietly despairing as she drifts down to sleep. [Utena logo- 'to be continued']
