  • Nausicaä

    16-year-old princess of the Valley of the Wind. Daughter of Jiru. Student of Yupa. One of the most beloved anime female characters, not because she's cute, but for her strong-willed character. She has special empathy with all living things. An expert in the use of jet-powered gliders.

    Nausicaä's father and leader of the Valley of the Wind.

    Nausicaä's teacher. Legendary swordsman.

    Fourth Imperial Princess of Tolumekia. Commander of the Imperial Border Army of Tolumekia, in charge of acquiring the God Warrior embryo from Pejite. 25 years old. Lost her left arm in an insect attack.

  • The Wasteland

    A vast toxic wasteland created after the "Seven Days of Fire" that destroyed much of the world. Populated by giant insects and poisonous fungi which produce toxic spores. Human beings can't survive here without wearing a filtering mask. The wasteland is ever expanding and threatens to swallow all remaining human habitats. But beneath the wasteland lies a secret...

  • Valley of the Wind

    A picturesque valley protected from the Wasteland by the cleansing action of wind from the ocean. Population 500. Wind power is the main source of energy. A mostly agrarian community led by the aging and ailing Jiru.

  • Tolumekia

    A powerful militaristic state west of the Valley of the Wind. Tolumekian rulers have the ambition to rule the world usng the newly discovered God Warrior embryo.

  • Pejite

    Industrial city next to the Wasteland. When a God Warrior embryo was discovered under the city, Tolumekian army invaded and destroyed the city.

    • Bugs

  • Ohmu

    King of all giant insects in the Wasteland. Tremendous in size and has 14 eyes, which change color depending on emotion: blue for peacefulness and red for anger. Rather intelligent and can communicate using the many retractable tentacles (feelers) in front.

  • God Warrior



    Not really a bug, more like a giant walking genetically-engineered reusable atomic bomb! Used as major weapon in the "Seven Days of Fire". Their fossilzed remains litter the Wasteland. Thought to be extinct until the discovery of a single God Warrior embryo under the city of Pejite.

  • Hebikera



    Giant long ribbon-like almost-metallic flying insect with formidable mandibles.

  • Teto



    Not a bug, but Nausicaä's favourite fox-squirrel. Rumored to be related to those found among the ruins of Laputa :)
