Followup to the previous
review in EX 4.4:
DIRTY PAIR is an anime classic: sci-fi action with battle bikinis and
lots of stuff blowing up. If anything, it defined anime a decade ago, and
it still works today.
As a follow-up to our previous
review, volume 2 continues with Kei and Yuri on two different assignments.
This time, "The God's Challenge" brings them to a strongly religious
backwater planet. An entire mining town was destroyed, and everyone is
convinced it is their God's wrath. Kei and Yuri soon find there is actually
substance to the rumors, as they try to piece together who or what this God
is.
And on a lighter note and a different world, "But They're Only Children" has
young kids of top politicians take over an army research base with a variety
of heavy weapons. Coupled with the news that the base was developing a
deadly weapon, the Dirty Pair are sent in to end the siege while trying to
prevent anyone from being killed.
The quality has remained the same from the previous volume, and is good even
put to today's standards. Also, although the original Japanese voices are
classic, I found the English dub to be one of the best I've heard this year.
My sole complaint is releasing only two episodes per tape for an older
series like this.
I enjoyed watching the DIRTY PAIR OVAs a long time past, and this tape
brought back good memories. If you found the first volume to be enjoyable,
the wait for these two more episodes will not disappoint
you.
