Satellite TV Anime Reviews - Illustrated
Short reviews of satellite TV Japanese-animated shows.
MEMOLU (Tongari Boshi no Memoru) (Pol.= Wyspi Li)
A family of gnomes come to Earth and befriend a shy, lonely girl, Marielle. Marielle is not treated kindly by the people she lives with. I remember scenes where Marielle is trying to conceal the small gnome, and one where a man is ordered to shoot a bird which Marielle likes. (This show is a project for the Techno-Girls and some detail about it appears on their website.)
The show has appeared on Polish TV and the fairy stuff is quite cute, while the scenes with Marielle are pretty. Memolu

REMI THE HOMELESS BOY (ie naki ko)
One of two anime adaptations of the novel Sans Famille by Hector Malot. In the book, a boy made homeless by poverty travels around with an old musician. This version is more faithful to the book than the WMT adaptation ie naki no remi in that in the latter the main character is a girl, Remi. In this version, made for TMS by Osamu DEZAKI, the sufferings of Remi and his companions are powerfully portrayed, with many scenes of poverty and hardship. In one such scene the monkey, Joli-court, insists on performing and then dies. It's a fairly easy anime to follow even if you don't have a copy in a comprehensible language.

THE GENIE FAMILY (Hakushon Daimaoh) (Bob, der Flaschengeist)
A series about a boy who finds a genie in a bottle. Apparently it comes out whenever he sneezes. Quite amusing for an episode or so. The boy is carried off to adventure in various parts of the world. It's rather a fantasy, as one might expect! Genie | Magic carpet
