W-vision
w-vision: This is a Japanese site (with some alternative English text), so you'll need some form of Japanese text enabling. It runs online movie clips of anime, including Fushigi Yuugi. A fast PC, fast Internet connection, and various plug-ins ( downloadable) will be required.
World Masterpiece Theater and other Video Clips:
They are on the WWW site Animedia
The clips are in .vdo format, so you must have a .vdo player plugin.
You can get this from vdo.net (free).
[Apple's "Quicktime" (also a free program, apparently) is for .mov files and will not work.]
I know that Netscape 3.0 is a suitable browser to use because I just tried it.
You are advised to have a Japanese font enabler running, but this is not essential. [There are various ways of doing this: for Netscape 3, obtain + install NJWIN (shareware). For Explorer 3, obtain the MSGOTHIC Japanese fonts from the Microsoft support site.]
Now go to the Animedia site. [You may want to have a list of the WMT titles to hand.]
Look at the yellow links on the right of the opening page, about half way up. Put the cursor on one of them, and look at the linkname in the bottom of your Netscape window. The group of links you are looking for are called "konan", "pico", "shindo", "maya", etc.
Click on a likely link. You should get a still picture, a button labelled "Free", and a list of 26 to 40 Japanese episode titles.
Click on the "Free" button, and wait. You should get a small video window, a download message, and then the clip should start by itself and play for 1 to 2 mins. (sound & vision).
This does work, more or less, with a 14,400 baud modem, but results should be smoother if you use a faster modem.
There is no obvious way of saving the clip for replay later.
You may stumble on the link to the Nippon Animation website, but you won't find any video clips there.
Garo. The classic underground manga magazine Garo has a site fearuring gag manga.
