MARMALADE BOY MOVIE - SYNOPSIS (KD) The previous synopsis of the movie was a very Japanese-like synopsis (not Americanized in wording as much) of what was in the Marmalade Style Book. This synopsis is from having seen and translated the movie directly. The movie
opens with a brief commentary by Miki followed by the Toei logo
and the sounds of school chimes. The scene opens with the normal
and natural sounds of high school life. Miki is lying in bed
in the nurses office, her eyes are closed as Yuu enters the room.
There are cherry blossoms floating through the window. He asks
her if she's sleeping. No answer. Yuu watches her intently. He
puts his hand on the headboard to brace himself as he leans over
for a very long kiss. (At this point the background music suddenly
stops Just as at the end of episode 1 of the TV series, Yuu pulls his hand up to his mouth as though thinking about her reaction then turns and leaves the nurse's office. Miki bolts upright, throws her hands to her lips "What is he up to NOW! Why?! We just met!" The usual opening song with what looks like the same art is played at this point. Ah! But there's a different in one spot! At the point where Yuu is up on the hill waiting for Miki, he turns around. At this one point the art HAS BEEN redrawn with Yuu having a slightly different look. The movie returns with uniform clad Yuu walking calmly and stately in the school hallway. All the sudden he smiles "Miki must be panicking about now. But, for me, it felt right." Yuu remember
the events that occurred two weeks previously as his parents
told him that they were getting a divorce. He seems slightly
surprised briefly, but keeps it under control. His parents explain
that they met the Koishikawas in Hawaii and how Dad fell in love
with Koishikawa Rumi-san and Mom fell in love with Koishikawa
Jin-san. They all talked it over and Yuu tells
them he doesn't care, it's fine with him. Later, in his room
he finds he just can't keep his mind on the architectural book
he's been looking at. He shuts the book and somehow causes the
photo of he and his parents to fall flat on the desk. It picks
it and muses Yuu is out in the entrance putting on his shoes to go out. His parents encounter him there and Youji tells him that he thought they'd go for a Sunday drive. Yuu, in a kindly voice, tells them that he's sorry, but that he has to work. His parents seem disappointed and Yuu again tells them that he's really sorry. Youji warns him to be careful of cars. Yuu smiles "Damn, I'm not a child." Youji keeps up the little boy Yuu routine as Yuu leaves "If you fall down get up!" Yuu commutes
on a train, then walks through the city. The normal sounds of
every day city life are pronounced as the serious faced young
man saunters through this busy world without taking any notice
to any of it. Suddenly, as though not being able to stand what's
bothering him, he lopes off down an alley or side street. He
starts roaming around and He becomes
fascinated by the determined girl who is completely absorbed
in what she's doing. As he watches her, she is perfectly fluid
in motion and there's "something" about her. Finally,
she does miss the ball but grabs it up on her racket and prepares
to stop. She takes off her arm band and sets it down, grabs her
towel and throws it over her head. "There's a monster!" Five little boys run up and ask "Are you ready, Towel Monster?!" The little boys in their Gastaman outfits aim some nasty sized water pistols and blast her! Miki yanks the towel off her head and says irritably "What?!"... "BE CAREFUL,
GASTAMAN!" one little boy's voice rings out THE MONSTER
TURNED INTO A WOMAN!" Little GASTAMAN warns "Be on
your guard Gast Beta, Omega, and Zeta!" The boys congratulate
themselves on having been successful but... "I'm surprised you spotted me, Gastaman! Miki pretends to be the towel monster. (This spot is VERY FUNNY as she begins to play the part to the fullest. Gastaman, the leader, tells her that they're not scared. Miki teases them and asks if they're prepared because she's going to roll them up like so much Norimaki. In no time, the kids are running with Miki in pursuit. Yuu howls with laughter. The group runs off before Yuu knows it. He runs up to where Miki and the kids had been with some disappointment. He picks up the arm band that Miki accidentally lost while playing the towel monster. He looks at it and sees the Initial MK. Later, he
walks into the Junk Jungle and greets his boss with a good morning
and jokingly tells him that he came to see if he was goofing
off. The minute that Yuu asks Kijima for coffee, his boss knows
something's wrong. Yuu, being Yuu, denies it. As he sits at an
outdoor table drinking his coffee with Kijima sitting opposite
he see a pig-tailed girl run past and Shed
gotten kinda far away from him. When he gets to an intersection,
he's not quite sure where she is until he hears her voice ring
out "Meiko!" He turns and sees her as she comes up
to another girl, who accuses her of being late. The red head
begs forgiveness and promises to buy her friend a double scoop
of ice cream. Meiko forgives her right away. Yuu sidles "We finally
found you, Towel Monster!" rings out as the little boys
run up to her and Meiko in excitement. Miki tells them that she
didn't run off that she told them that she had to go so she's
not the towel monster anymore. The boys say then that she's Towel
Monster Koishikawa! Miki sarcastically says "NOW the Towel
Monster's part of my name>" GASTAMAN ALPHA! Yuu starts
to go over in his mind what he just heard - Meiko calling her
"Miki" and the boys calling her "Towel Monster
Koishikawa". He looks at the initials on the arm band and
is sure. As Miki, Meiko, and the boys walk off, Yuu gets a set
look on his face, begins to follow. He watches from a distance as the boys try to teach Miki the poses for being a Gastaman Brother. Miki nearly topples down the steps she's standing up just trying it. Meiko looks on in embarrassment, the crowds look on in amusement, and Yuu laughs. When she and Meiko get ice cream. Yuu does too...and he gets the same flavors as Miki. Wherever Miki goes, there's Yuu too. She pets a dog, he pets one too. When she's shopping, he's watching. At one point, she tries to get a box out of a stack of them. The whole thing nearly tumbles. Miki saves it just in time. Yuu was a bit worried at first but giggled at her expression afterwards. Later Miki
and Meiko are having coffee (one presumes it was anyway) while
sitting at an outdoor table. Across the street at another table
is Yuu keeping an eye on Miki. A foreign couple at the table
next to Miki and Meiko directions. Miki can be see gesticulating
as she tries to make herself understood by them. She is very
cute as she does this and Yuu smiles On the way home, Yuu pulls out the arm band and tightly and emotionally closes it in his hand and runs home. Uniform clad, Yuu comes out of the house. His parents remind him that that night is the dinner with the Koishikawas. He tells them that they needn't worry, he won't forget. Early evening rolls around and Yuu is running to get to the restaurant because he's late. Once there, he's led to the room where everyone is already seated. He's obviously nervous as he adjusts his collar. He walks into the room. The scene changes as though its become frozen - with Yuu looking at Miki; and Miki, in return, stunned at the sight of the handsome boy. His thoughts follow: "The wrist band hasn't been returned yet. But someday I'll be able to. Someday......for sure." |
