Kiki English video cover Soon after its 1989 release in Japan, Kiki was dubbed into English by Carl Macek and shown on JAL trans-Pacific flights.  It's a fairly good dub.  The Macek dub is included in the Ghibli LD Box Set (see below) with English available on the right analogue track.

During 1997-1998, Disney produced a new dub with Kirten Dunst, Phil Hartman, Debbie Reynolds and other A-class talents.  The opening and ending songs were changed to new English songs by Sydney Forest,  some new pieces of music were added (mostly from Kiki Image Album), and credits were changed from Japanese to English, but not even one second was cut from the film.  This new Disney dub version was released in North America on September 1, 1998 on VHS.

Kiki sub coverDisney also released a subbed VHS of "Kiki" on September 29, 1998. The sub contains the original Japanese opening and ending songs by Yumi ARAI. It is letterboxed, while the dub is pan & scan.

Disney also released Kiki on laserdisc. The laserdisc version is letterboxed, and comes with the original Japanese language track (in mono) on the right analogue track.  It is closed-captioned (based on the dub script).

The English-dub tape is readily available from various online and traditional video stores. The LD and English-sub VHS, on the other hand, are now out of print.
