One
year had passed since the crash of my Starlight
Express. The intention to re-establish Starlight Express was rather
uncertain. The BBS scene was slowly dwindling then, due to the rapid expansion
and development of the Internet. Soon after, our government had commercialised
internet service and I had jumped on the technology bandwagon with one
of our ISP, the Pacific
Internet.
The
Internet was foreseen to be the IN thing, and it was luring loyal BBS users
away from their favourite BBS into this new promising technology. Well,
one thing is set for certain: for once, old timers of the BBS were finally
set free from the old boring DOS based ANSi text graphics and keyboard
interface, and the restriction of communicating with only the users within
the bulletin board. What were installed for them in this new technology
were rich text and graphics, and the ability to communicate with the rest
of the people in the world, all just a mouse click away.
Soon
after I got my internet account, the intention of creating a homepage was
already burning inside me. But creating a webpage during that time was
a painful experience. One has to learning HTML (Hypertext Mark-up Language),
which was a must for webpage developers, as present day WYSIWYG webpage
authoring tools were still not widely available yet.
To
rub salt into the bleeding wound, so as to say, there was no official set
of standard guidelines for building HTML code. This meant to say that one
had to learn the different codes for different browsers, or code in only
one specific browser's language, sacrificing the rest who were using some
other browsers. But well, this was the story of the past.
Un-ashamed
to say this, I always have a deep passion for anything that is related
to Japan. This has to trace back all the way when I was still a fifteen-year-old
teenager, but I will not elaborate any further here. The intention to set-up
an anime lyric page on the internet was very clear and certain. At that
time, I was doing a Japanese language course in my institution. Naturally,
putting up an anime lyric page was a good choice. I could learn Japanese,
and at the same time, share something that I like with the internet community.
The
AniMe Song Lyrics HomePage had came a long way to what it was today, since
the day it went online on the April 05, 1996. Started with just a page
full of links here and there, it had slowly developed into an all-rounder.
Covering a wider interest, but still focusing on its main theme, and that
is to provide song lyrics to the net surfers.
Unknown
to many visitors of my homepage, I used to own a FTP site for contributors
to upload their song
lyrics into the webserver. It used to reside in the Dragonfire
server, but due to the commercialisation of their website, I had no choice
but to close it down.
I
had yet another homepage unknown to many, and it was located in one of
the backstreets of GeoCities.
If you have read my What's New!? page,
it was actually my tribute to Noriko Sakai
page. And here's the catch: For the past year or so, it had remained to
be "under construction". But rest assured this time round. I've put in
all my heart and soul to make this tribute page to my idol as wonderful
as possible.
