The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Book 1:
The Fellowship of the Rings
The dark, fearsome Ringwraiths were searching
for a hobbit. Frodo Baggins knew they were searching for him and the Ring
he bore- the ring of Power that would enable the Dark Lord to conquer Middle
Earth. To protect all he held dear to him, he and a small band of companions
set on a journey to Mount Doom, the only place it could be destroyed. Only
problem is..Mount Doom is in the very center of Mordor, the Dark Lord's
Kingdom.
That's what it says on the back of the book..I
don't particularly like it, but it'll take me a long time to write my own.
I'll put it up as soon as I have it. Don't let the description stop you
from reading it.
Book 2: The Two Towers
The Fellowship was scattered. One was killed,
two were captured. The Ringbearer and his faithful servant, Sam, went on
to Mordor. Many prepared for war against the ancient evil of Sauron. Others
were contending with the treachery of the wizard Saruman. As Sam and Frodo
plod on towards Mordor, they chance upon Gollum, slave to the Ring. He
then offers to guide them to Mount Doom, in the middle of the dark kingdom.
Again, I hope to get my own summary up here
soon. The same goes for Book 3.
Book 3: The Return of the
King
While the evil Sauron stretched his control
over all of Middle Earth, Frodo and Sam struggled deeper into Mordor. Betrayed
by Gollum, separated, and both lost. Meanwhile, the rest of Middle Earth
fight against the legions of Sauron. All are losing hope in the fight against
him, but the return of their King and the destruction of the Ring turns
the tide of the battle in their favor.
The Chronicles of
Narnia
There are 7 books in the chronicles
The Magicians Nephew
Digory and Polly meet and make friends one
cold, wet summer in London. Their lives change forever when a small adventure
exploring a secret passage takes them to the study of Digorys mad (and
I don't mean angry) Uncle Andrew. Uncle Andrew (who thinks he's a magician)
gives Polly a beautiful ring, which transports her to another world. Digory
is then forced to take a ring for his-self to go rescue her. Finding that
he's suddenly in a wood surrounded by little ponds., he finds Polly and
they opt to go home. The way to get to another world through the wood is
too jump into one of the ponds surrounding. Digory, who obviously hasn't
had his desire for adventure quenched yet, suggests going into another
pond to get to a different world. Polly agrees and that's when all the
trouble begins..Wanna know the rest, read the book. (I don't want to spoil
it.)
The Lion, the Witch
and the Wardrobe
The Pevensies, 4 brothers and sisters, are
taken to live in the house of Professor Kirk to escape the air-raids in
the war. While looking around the house, they're forced to take refuge
in one of the spare rooms while a tour of the house is going on. The youngest,
Lucy, looks into a wardrobe in the room. As she walks in, she finds that
the wardrobe doesn't come to an end, but goes on. Suddenly she emerges
in the middle of a snow covered forest. As she walks on, she sees a light,
which turns out to be a lamppost. Meeting Mr.Tumnus, a faun, she finds
out that she is in Narnia and goes with Mr.Tumnus to have tea. As
the day progresses, Lucy realizes how long she's been away for many hours.
However Mr.Tumnus doesn't want her to leave, and stalls her. Finally he
breaks down and confesses that he works for the evil queen who rules Narnia.
His job is to detain any humans he meets and hand them over to the queen.
Feeling bad about what he's done, he lets Lucy return home. As Lucy runs
out of the wardrobe to her siblings, she tells them everything that happened
to her. They don't believe her though, seeing that only a few seconds have
passed. So she takes them to the wardrobe but nothing happens. Lucy insists
however and a few days later, while their playing hide and seek, she goes
back in the wardrobe and finds herself back in Narnia. This time her brother
Edmund follows her, and ends up in Narnia also. Lucy has already run off
to Mr.Tumnus', not knowing Edmund is there also. So Edmund walks off and
finds the lamppost and the queen...they talk for awhile and by the time
their done Edmund has been put under a spell and agrees to get the rest
of his brothers and sisters there. As the queen leaves he finds Lucy
walking towards the lampost. She is of course very happy that Edmund has
come, so he can tell Susan and Peter.(their other brother and sister) When
they get back, Lucy tells them again how she and Edmund got into Narnia.
Edmund pretends that it was all a game so he can eventually get them to
the queen. Many days later the Pevensies are once again forced to take
refuge in the room, but this time they have to hide in the wardrobe. This
time they all enter Narnia and admit to Lucy the she was right, and needless
to say they find out that Edmund HAD been there, and all are very mad at
him. Lucy leads them to Tumnus' house only to find that it's been destroyed.
Left at the burnt out wreckage is a note basically stating that Mr.Tumnus
is being held for high treason against the Queen. The brothers and sisters
decide its up to them to save him since he sacrificed his-self to save
Lucy.(all except Edmund, who's rather sulky at the moment) Once again,
that's not it but if ya' really wanna know, read the book.
The Horse and His Boy
During the Golden Age of Narnia, when Peter
the High King rules along with his 3 brothers and sisters, a young boy
named Shasta discovers he is not the son of Arsheesh, a Calormene fisherman.
As he finds this out, he also discovers that Arsheesh means to sell him
to the Calormene Tarkaan (which is a Calormene Noble) who is staying in
their hut for the night. Determined to run away, he is confronted with
with the Tarkaans horse. Shocked when the horse speaks, the horse tells
him of a land where he would be free, where the animals talked and dwarfs
lived. Narnia. He also says that Shasta is probably from Narnia since he
is fair of skin and hair, while Calormene's tend to be darker. And he tells
him that he was horse-napped from there when he was a little foal.
Bree (the horse) decides to run away with Shasta to Narnia, since it would
be harder to escape if he didn't have any human guiding him, and for Shasta,
to escape on foot. So they set off that very night. While riding towards
Narnia, they have a run in with another rider. They notice that the other
horse can talk as well. After they straiten everything out between them,
it turns out that the other rider and horse are also escaping to Narnia.
The rider, Aravis, is a young Tarkheena running away from an unfavorable
marriage. Hwin, the horse, is running from a life of slavery. They agree
it would be best to travel together, and head for the great city of Tashbaan
to get to Narnia. As they enter the city, they are separated and Shasta
taken away by the visiting King and Queen of Narnia, mistaken for someone
else. From there on things only get worse...You know how it goes.."read
the book".
Prince Caspian
Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy are returning
to boarding school in, when they are pulled out of the Dreary train station,
into another world. Pretty sure that they are back in Narnia, they set
forth to try and find someone they can talk with. However, the only thing
the can see for miles is a dense forest, and no talking beasts in sight.
They come to an old ruins of a castle, and decide to camp there. As they
explore through out the old castle, they find that its their very own castle
that they ruled in, Cair Paravel. Surprised at the condition of their old
home, and the obvious amount of time that has passed, they receive another
surprise as they spot two soldiers about to throw a dwarf overboard into
a river. After rescuing the dwarf they tell him who they are and their
story and he, in turn, tells him his name(Trumpkin) and story. It turns
out that he is part of a rebellion lead by Prince Caspian against King
Miraz. Prince Caspian is the rightful ruler of Narnia, but Miraz
was put into power after the death of Caspians father, and the disappearance
of many of the Lords loyal to him. After usurping the throne, Miraz had
fully planned to let Caspian have the throne after his death. However,
Miraz had a son born to him, therefore Caspian is no longer of use. Caspian,
who has heard stories of old Narnia all his life and wishes t find it,
is warned by his teacher, Doctor Cornelius., to run away after the birth
of Miraz's son and to find old Narnia. Caspian runs away in the night,
but is thrown from his horse in the woods. When he wakes up, he finds that
he's in the company of 2 dwarfs and a talking badger. After telling them
who he is and why he fled, they alert the rest of the talking beasts and
and dwarfs and other such creatures. All this leads up to the rebellion
against Miraz. Trumpkin finishes and the children realize that they were
pulled in to Narnia to help Caspian. The whole group then sets off to find
Caspian and see what they can do to help him. Now, I'm not gonna say it
again...instead of saying(or more like typing it) it, from now on I'm just
going to put *** in its place.So..***
The Voyage of the Dawn
Treader
The Dawn Treader is the first ship
Narnia has seen in centuries. King Caspian( you knew he would win..but
you dont know how...) has built it so he can search for the seven lords
Miraz sent away years ago. Edmund and Lucy are staying with their cousin,
Eustace Scrubb(who they don't really like) while their parents and Susan
are out of the country, and their brother Peter is studying with Professor
Kirke. As they sit in Lucys room one day, cousin Eustace comes barging
in to torture them. Eustace finds them staring at a picture on the wall,
of a ship. Asking them why their so fascinated with this picture, they
tell him that it looks like a Narnian ship.( They would have never told
him, but he overheard them talking about before this) As Lucy says " I
like it because the ship looks as if it was really moving." Eustace turns
to look at the ship. Suddenly, he realizes that it really does look like
it moving..the waves moving up and down and starts to feel sick...Suddenly
a cold splash of salt water comes out of the picture, getting all three
drenched. Eustace, suddenly getting angry( and very frightened) rushes
towards the picture to smash it. Edmund, who knows how these magic things
can work, tries to pull him back from the picture, only to find that he,
Lucy, and Eustace are standing on the picture frame. Eustace, of
course, falls in to the water and Lucy and Edmund have to dive in to save
him.( he's to dense to think of swimming) They are all rescued by the ship,
which turns out to be Caspians ship. Of course, they cant jump out of the
picture(they cant even see the room or anything) so they decide to stay
with Caspian. The only one who has any real objection is Eustace, who refuses
to believe that their not in England anymore. This is one of my favorites
out of the series. ***
The Silver Chair
While hiding from the school bullies, Jill
Pole runs into Eustace Scrubb. Understanding Jill's problem, since everyone
in their school lives in fear of the bullies, he tries to comfort her.
But, seeing as he used to be such a little punk, she doesn't trust him
and thinks he'll fink her out. Swearing that he's changed, he tells her
what happened to him, all his adventures in Narnia. Suspicious at first,
she starts to believe him and even goes along with his idea to try to get
to Narnia by calling Aslan. And just so you know, Aslan is the Great Lion
who rules Narnia. He comes into all the stories. Anyway, after calling
to him, nothing happens. Then they hear the bullies coming after them and
run for it. Eventually, they run into a wall with a door that leads to
a meadow. They manage to open it, only to find that on the other side is
a cliff, and the weather very pleasant. Not stopping to consider this,
they run through, shutting the door behind them. Jill walks over to the
cliff to see how high up they are. Eustace tells her to come back before
she falls off. But, determined to show she has no fear, she balances on
the very edge of the cliff, walking back and forth. But she loses her balance
and Eustace rushes to save her. She ends up safely away from the edge,
but watches as Eustace falls over. Suddenly, a huge lion rushes over to
cliff and starts saves Eustace by blowing him away to where ever.( Narnia,
but she didn't know that) Then, after getting over her fear of the lion
and having a nice little chat with him, she too is blown to Narnia. From
there on I don't want to ruin it....***
The Last Battle
The Last Battle is such a great book. If
you've read the rest of the series, then I have no doubt that you'll read
this one. But still, I don't think I should summarize this one. Okay, so
honestly, I'm too lazy to write this last one out. So bite me, Batman is
on now, and I wanna watch instead of work on my page.
