Given the picky nature of humans, and considering that Project Orpheus is the new homes of many people, the UN took great pains to make sure it's pet project's human element are well housed and cared for.
The normal staff, that is, nurses, go-fers, and maintenece are housed in small semi-private cubicles on the bottom floor of the Inspection Station or main building. Not much more space than your average college dorm room and about half that of your average motel room. Each block (about 5 cubicles) has it's own bath and shower areas...and fights in here are, needless to say, very common.
Security are housed in two sets of barracks throughout the main building. They are modeled exactly as any military style barracks would be, with one common mess hall for the troops, as well as an expansive shower/bath area. The place is impeccably maintained, mostly by the soldiers themselves.
The youths, as you would expect, are a special case in and of themselves when it comes to housing. For one thing, they have their own sector of seven rooms, all located within a minute's walking distance of the rec areas. The rooms themselves are about the size of hotel suites, with a main room, bedroom and full bath/shower, chock full of what various luxuries of living. An HES is included, along with a up to date PC hooked up to the local networks (and more than enough CD's for the jaded computer phreak!). The living room also sports a large couch and easy chair with coffee table. The bedrooms, though apparently sparse, do contain a full mirror/dresser and single size bed. The youths are allowed to decorate or customize the place as they see fit, of course, leading to interesting interior decorating. Also, all card locked doors to the dorms can only be opened by the youth the room belongs to or via a masterkey card (which only the head of security possesses). Unless it is a direct security matter, personnel are not permitted, regardless of rank, to enter the test subject's rooms without consent. Project Orpheus knows how much teens value their privacy....
Senior staff officers, like Noa and Maj. D'Sangelo have similar quarters, but without the nice privacy rule!
As for Karl, Dr. Heckyll, and Col. Marchon, they have their own devoted sectors to themselves, individual office areas of 5 or more rooms, including a spacious living area to their specifications. Axl, for example, shoots for strictly spartan living, Mira adopts a black yuppie deco look to her areas, and according to those who've been in Karl's sector, he seems to have an odd and perverse love for dark, rustic, medieval looks.
Naturally, one can't hang around a lab for too long without going nuts from boredom. Even Mindscaping and computer playing gets tiresome and not to mention it promotes poor physical activity!
Thus, Project Orpheus contains some good recreational facilities, particuallarly for the kids. The largest rec center is mainly used by the test subjects, a large area of a grass field near the facility grounds that is surrounded by an invisible dome. It is quite lovely and spacious, good for even just relaxing and thinking, but assuming you want to get more physically active, it has a full size pool and running track. The facility also has a HUGE variety of athletic, work out, or sports equipment upon request. (Aya, in fact, has set up a make shift archery range to the right of the track). Though it is mainly frequented by the subjects, occasionally security or staff will hang around when the youths are busy elsewhere. In addition to the above ground main area, the facility has two raquetball courts (which Carla frequents), and a religous sanctuary (which is rarely used, but it was put there just in case).
The place also contains a lounge area for the test subjects. This area is only assecable by the youths or Ms. Kanamemi, with the same consent rules that apply to their own dorms. It's fairly humble, though, with a few tables, pool table, jukebox, and a couple of pinball machines. This is also where Noa holds sessions with a subject if the Mindscape room is not needed.
Personnel have their own lounge area as well, which is actually larger and better stocked than the youth's, but it's ALWAYS occupied and privacy is out of the question.
As any college student will tell you, though, the best fun comes from what you make yourself! This is especially the case among the personnel who occasionally have scavenger hunts (closely monitored by security, of course), mock "assassin" games, and even Poker tournaments after hours.
