The Not So Real Version Of Beauty & The Beast 1

Once upon a time in a very pretty village, far away, there lived a very rich merchant with a family of four sons. The man was a highly educated and intelligent, he gave only the best possible thing a father could offer. Gave them enough money to indulge their needs, the best education money could buy and most importantly love. Though, it's hard for him to find the time so that he could spend precious moments with his sons, he tried nonetheless.

The four sons were equally handsome both in face and person. They were named Ryo, Kento, Sai and the youngest was Rowen. Rowen was particularly adored for his charming complexion. Who wouldn't? With that fine baby-soft, silky blue hair, tight buns, lean body he could have anyone he wanted. When he was a young lad, everyone called him 'cutie' and that did evoke jealousy among the other siblings. They would constantly ignore him, gazed at him with their razor-sharp, stabbing eyes full of fury. He was a good lad, though hurt inside; he contained it for he refused to make their dear father worries.

Rowen was not just handsome and surrounded by this awfully bright, translucent aura which will instantaneously makes people feel at ease whenever they were near him but also possessed angel-like manners, considerate and kind hearted. His brothers on the contrary were rude, haughty and selfish. Too proud to treat 'ordinary' people like human being, insulting them with harsh remarked. They would only pretend to be gentle with those high-ranking aristocrats daughters or sons. High-class flirt indeed.

Quite suddenly, the good father lost the whole of his great fortune. He was left only a few acres of land with a tiny cottage on it. Sadly he gathered all his sons and told them about the unbidden calamity and that they were to packed everything up so they can move to their new home in the suburb. Unfortunately, his sons except for Rowen couldn't accept the fact that their dear father was broke and that they have to live far away in the country as ordinary people. They were too proud of their title, and decided to seek for someone classy enough to support and marry them.

"What!! Father! How could you do this to us?!!" Ryo scolded their poor father.

"Yeah, how could you?!" Kento interrupted and resumed eating his sandwich.

"Hush...children, let bygone be bygone. We can't change what had happened and I'm really sorry to have you children involve in all of this. All we have to do now is to put our heads together and think of a way on how to continue on living with what's left in our saving." The good merchant stated calmly.

By the time he finished, there was arguments and complaints from his sons. They were not satisfied by what he said. Somehow they just have to evoke unnecessary verbal fight with their father.

“We can’t live in that rotten, old fashioned, obsolete house of ours, moreover the place in isolated!” Ryo said harshly, not looking at his father.

“Nyum…nyum…yeap! That’s true. Definitely!” Kento seconded after he successfully swallowed some food.

“Father, you must consider this decision. What will happen to us if you decide to live in the rural area? We are not at all expose to the world, not like now! Father, I’m sure there’s some money left in your saving for us to start all over again. Right father?” Sai held his breath and looked expectantly at his father, waiting for a reply but none received.

The poor merchant had absolutely nothing to say. He was at lost at that moment. He looked sad beyond words. The thought that his own sons were against him doubled the pain. Rowen, the youngest was the only one who noticed the change. He said nothing in return but choose to stay quiet for the rest of this family strives.

Rowen sat at the far end of the room just beside the fireplace. He spoke nothing, just playing with his own thoughts. Rowen focused to the center of the room, where the merchant sat silently and immobile in his old chair. Even though Ryo, Kento and Sai were busy mumbling their rights, stating their discontentment about the whole situation, their father seem to be floating elsewhere, deep in trance. Rowen was evidently disappointed with his brothers’ behavior for making their poor father lose faith.

After a few more arguments and whining the three brothers eventually got tired of their father lacking in response. One by one they left the room, their faces were plastered with resentment and hatred. The last to leave the room was Ryo.

Ryo looked at his father and almost whispering he said,” Father…you are pathetic”. The he left.

The entire ‘time’ thing didn’t seem to exist anymore. The world felt so dead and lifeless. That single word, ‘pathetic’ was enough to shatter the merchant’s heart into bits of pieces. All hopes vanished. He was on the verge of braking down but wasn’t going to give up that easily. Even after confronting that awful display of affection, he still try to stand strong for he had convinced his heart that Ryo and the others didn’t mean what they say. They were just confused and scared all together.

The merchant had enough of grief in one day. He cleared his mind and tried to dismiss the troublesome thoughts he had, not worth grieving over it anyway. He then picked up a discarded newspaper nearby his feet and began reading the caption, which was the only readable thing at the moment. He can’t read such fine writing composing the news of the day not without his glasses. Just as he was busy fussing over the newspaper, someone decided to butt in.

"Father...." Rowen quietly mouthed his concern.

"Hmm...Oh, it's you Rowen! What's the matter son? Something bothering you?” His father lowered the newspaper he was holding, looked at his youngest son and waited for him to continue.

"Father...he he. You know you can't read the news paper without wearing these." Rowen playfully shoves a pair antic of glasses in front of him. He smiled teasingly at his father and simultaneously shaking his head.

To be continue? 'grinning'
