As Mizuno Ami (“friend of water”)in the Japanese series, Ami is one of two characters whose first name transferred to the DiC dub. Also, Ami is the only character who is given an English surname, Anderson.
Ami, in both series, is a shy genius whose perfectionism drives her intellectually beyond her peers. Aspiring to be a doctor, Ami focuses on studying, deciding that she does not have time for love. Relationships are hard, especially romantic ones (like Greg), but once Ami cares about someone, she is very devoted. Ami lives with her mother, a pediatrician, which can explain her dream of being a doctor. This dream conflicted with her duties as a Scout when Ami planned to go to Germany to study. In the end, her friends and her calling as a Scout kept Ami in Japan. In addition, Ami is an avid swimmer and chess player. She also serves as a study partner for the rest of the Inner Senshi, especially Serena. Due to her deep compassion for the struggling student, Ami is the most patient with Serena. |

Sailor Mercury, the Senshi of Ice, serves as the strategist for the Scouts, especially during their earliest battles. To fulfill this role, Sailor Mercury is aided by her super mini-computer and a VR visor.
For most of the series (all of the current dub), Sailor Mercury's attacks are mainly defensive, hiding the Scouts and/or confusing their enemy. Two examples are the Mercury Bubbles Blast, which creates a fog, and Shine Aqua Illusion. As a scout, Sailor Mercury is also the princess of her planet. In Jupiter's Gone, she has married Greg and has a daughter, Camilla, who becomes Sailor Boreas. |
