A Bad Day
A Bad Day

The alarm clock didn’t ring.
None of my towels are clean.
The bread for my toast is now green.
It’s going to be a bad day.

My stocking has a run.
As for shoes, I can find only one.
The neighbor’s barking dog
Makes me want a gun.
It’s going to be a bad day.

Outside the traffic is standing still.
My gas gauge is pointing towards nil.
The Mississippi heat saps my will.
It’s going to be a bad day.

At work, it’s not better
As I spill coffee on my sweater.
A patient’s sneezes just makes it wetter.
It’s definitely now a bad day.

The day’s getting okay--but wait!
Anne’s gotta leave so I must work late.
But it’s not like I have a date.
Screw the diet!
Let the cookies add to my weight.
It’s definitely a bad day.

I finally make it home.
Ring! My friend is on the phone,
Listening as I moan and groan.
I suddenly don’t feel so alone,
Making better a bad day.
