As I Say Goodbye to You While I savor our last kiss,
I wonder how it came to this As I say goodbye to you. Who is right and who is wrong? Or did we just press our luck too long? It could be you. It could be me. Maybe we just weren’t meant to be. I wish I knew As I say goodbye to you. I can feel the tears building inside And see the questions in your eyes But there is nothing I can do As I say goodbye to you. Because we have been here before, Someone ready to walk out this door. We’ve both begged, made our pleas, Have screamed, and fallen on our knees. We’ve made up and try to forgive But this is just no way to live. Now we’re just through As I say goodbye to you. We have tried in so many ways To make this work every day But it’s just no use As I say goodbye to you. So I reluctantly I pull away. God, how I’ve dreaded this day! But this is something I must do As I say goodbye to you. I try to ignore your “Please” And the quivering in my knees As I walk out the door, Wanting to fall through the floor. I do love you But I must say goodbye to you. Maybe someday you’ll see I’m right But I know it won’t be tonight Now that I’ve said goodbye to you. |
