Quiet The blaring of the alarm clock begins the day.
A barking dog announces he wants to play. Welcomed is the hiss of the shower’s spray. Each interrupts the quiet. The children chatter as they board the bus. Horns and shrieking brakes are the traffic’s fuss. Each an evil but a must And interrupts the quiet. The constant blaring of the phone, The beeper that won’t leave me alone, The attending’s cool and condescending tone, All interrupt the quiet. The cafeteria’s growing clatter, Discussions of topics that hardly matter, Peals and peals of useless chatter Continue to interrupt the quiet. But come early morning there is peace. All this noise seems to cease As in sleep so many find release And also find the quiet. All are still safe in my care Though many are still unaware That I am the one there Sharing in the quiet. But with the coming of the day Noise and chaos have come to play, To try to rule another day But cannot conquer the quiet. |
