MY SITE!
Ha ha. Just kidding. Personally, I find it egotistical and offensive when
people rate their own sites higher than other sites, as another fanartist
has done here. I didn't get asked to do Anipike picks so I could shamelessly
promote myself. However, I will abuse my position and shamelessly
editorialize.
Instead of a "Top Ten List", I will just name off some sites that
are worth
a visit, in the order I think of them. I'll try not to pick sites that
everyone knows about and receives enough hits already, instead I'll
pick sites that hopefully you may have not heard about.
There are lots of monthly sites out there,
in which someone states a theme, and people draw a picture following that
theme for the month. MAH is the only one that I know of for adult artists.
The reason why I think this one is special is because most gaijin artists
are puritanical in their art, looking down at hentai artists because of
what they do. To my surprise, most hentai artists are pretty nice people,
who do their art with a sense of humour and openness that is not seen very
much with anti-hentai artists. They are extremely laid-back people, and
not judgemental at all. So MAH is a place for their work. And drawing
hentai is sexy stuff ;D.
Another monthly, but again, this one is
different. Instead of stills, its all comics, based on a theme. There
are a lot of short works here, all worth a read. Some artists do serials,
tuning their story to suit that month's theme.
L0cke draws well and fast, so this site is
constantly updated with new comics. His style is anime cyberpunk, and
his themes are issues of the heart and mind, and his inability to
comprehend either. The future of independent online comics rests with this
man,
and he is the one to watch.
Tang has been drawing his weekly comic for over 2 years
now. It was the first comic I read on the web. It's funny stuff, and
there is a large archive for you to spend a lot of time on. He makes
fun of everything, including, well .. me.
The unfortunate part of this site
is that the majority of the membership does not actually draw any comics --
just anime art. You can tell because the comic directory is vastly
overshadowed
by the artist directory. The name is now misleading -- it is a good place
to find anime style artists but NOT a good place to find online comics.
To me, this is a great deal for good translated manga. I think the
future of comics in America should follow this format -- the comic
anthology format. The comic market in America is strictly a collector's
market, not a reader's market. This has made comics in America a hobby
rather than an entertainment option, and is slowly killing it. Anyways,
better people have editorialized on this subject, so I'll just say that PULP
is just a good idea. Side note: Just when I plug this site, it goes
down for a revamp. Figures.
Well, I guess that's all I got to plug. I hope you find some of these
links useful, or at least entertaining. I plugged the sites I actually
visit, not sites I wanted to plug in an effort to kiss up to them. So,
I'll just
quickly plug my site, .
Not many CGs as I'm not a
good CG artist, but there are over 300 pages of comic online. Some of
the stuff is adult, but it's well-marked. Thanks to the people at Anipike
for letting me spew. Any retorts to my opinions, you can E-mail me.
