Note: According to Nobuteru Yuuki (in 1997 July), the new animation staff was to have been mostly the same as that of the television series. He himself had planned to begin work at the end of the summer of 1997, and would have probably continued to work for over a year. According to him, the relationship between the television series and this new project would have been similar to that of the first Super Dimension Fortress Macross series and film, Do You Remember Love?.

However, Sunrise producer Masahiko Minami (in 1997 August and 1998 March) will neither confirm nor deny whether the project will be a film or original video, nor whether the story will be a condensation or a continuation. Minami will say that plans are being made in Sunrise Studio No. 2. Minami states that creator Shouji Kawamori, director Kauki Akane, and new writers will be involved if a project becomes reality, and that viewers should look forward to 1999.

Shouji Kawamori (in 1998 August) says plans for a film are still in progress, and he is currently revising the story. He adds that the differences between the series and the film will be as great, if not greater, as those between the first Macross series and film.
