The melancholic piece Folken whistles to Van is "Dragon Bride" ["Ryuu no Hanayome"] (although it's called "Fatal" on the third soundtrack album). In Escaflowne's background story, Folken and Van heard it from their mother Varie often in their childhood. In actual production according to the soundtrack album, the song was whistled not by Folken's voice Johji Nakata, but by Escaflowne singer Masayoshi Furukawa.
