Welcome again to Sore Yuke! Uchu Senkan Yamamoto Yohko, also
known as "Space Battleship Yamamoto Yohko" or as the
official english title reads, "Starship Girl Yamamoto Yohko".
All sounds a little overwhelming, no?
Two forces, known as Terra and Ness are fighting
against each other for economic negotiations. The two spacefaring regions
utilise powerful starships that are more advanced than any other organisation.
The most powerful and experimental of the starships are possessed by
the Terra's Estanatrech fleet, the TA-20 series. The newest model, powered by
a the "Everblack Cannon", is the TA-29. Which no pilot has been
able to control.
Curtis Lawson, the Chief engineer of the TA-series scouts four girls from
the 20th century who have exceptional skills in gaming simulations.
Hakyoin Ayano Elizabeth, Kagariya Momiji, Midoh Madoka and finally,
the genius pilot, Yamamoto Yohko.
Starship Girl Yamamoto Yohko was released in several incarnations.
A novel series, a manga series, two OAV series (Space Battleship
Yamamoto Yohko and the second which is called Space Battleship Yamamoto Yohko II),
and more recently in April '99, a new TV series with the same title.
The series shows that 1000 years from now, not everything is still
being taken seriously. Using a drama/comedy setting, each of the
characters has their own personality quirks and it's all very
enjoyable. I'm quite surprised that it hasn't been picked up for
a commercial release as of yet.
The story concept between the OAV series and the TV series remains
very close to each other. There are some differences, as the TV series
follows the manga storyline more closely with appearances of villains
and supporting characters which only appeared in printed format. The
"Redsnappers", Ness's rival group to Terra, are introduced differently.
Additionally, the TV series has redesigned the character's look and
style. I have to say that the TV series added a lot more depth to the
characters in the series. Each of the character's biographies will
outline the differences between the series. To date, this has to be
one of the most fashionable series out. The girls from Yohko
are constantly changing clothes and the way they look, several
times an episode.
More to come. Until then, keep visiting. There's more to come.
Get ready! GO!
