| The central and main product that was produced by the E-project under the leadership of Dr. Ritsuko Akagi and care of Gendou Ikari. A lot of mystery still shrouds the real nature and configuration of this unit. In fact, the unit is more important to Nerv than its pilot. The armor subdues the entity inside that was said to be a clone of the first angel that appeared in the South Pole during the second impact. During the TV series, this unit has gone berserk regardless of the will of the pilot or lack of external energy to run it (Episode 2, Episode 16, Episode 19). The mother of Shinji Ikari disappeared inside during a synchronization test in 2004. The unit became officially an S-2 engine eva when it ate Zeruel, the 14th angel, and thus can function even without external power source. |
