Long ago the moon was ruled by a gentle caring mother & Queen, her name was Queen Serenity. Queen Serenity had a daughter named Serena and they lived in happiness and peace on the moon enjoying festivals and balls every night. Princess Serena ended up falling in love with Prince Darien from the earth and everything was perfect. Peace prevailed on the moon and on all surrounding planets (each sailor scout being in the past a princess of their respective planet). Then the evil Queen Beryl and her army from the Negaverse showed up to destroy the peace and rule the universe. Queen Serenity fought Queen Beryl, although it was too late for the moon kingdom. She used the last of her strength to send the spirits of everyone into the future to be reborn on earth. Unfortunatly to save the good she had to save the bad also, so every spirit left for the earth.
We learn some of this in the prologue at the beginning of the first show. Through the rest of the series we meet one by one each of the sailor scouts who awaken to the knowledge of thier sailor scout identity, and ultimately learn about thier past lives and discover wich sailor scout is the moon princess. Darien also slowly begins to remember his previous life as Prince Darien and transforms into the mysterioius character Tuxedo Mask to help the Sailor Scouts when they are in danger. Of course Queen Beryl and her Negaverse army revive also, leading to many battles and exciting adventures for Sailor Moon and her friends which culminates into the final ending battle with Queen Beryl. After the battle Luna wipes all the scouts and Darien's memories clear so they can go on leading normal lives.
After Queen Beryl had been defeated it was thought that all was well, then Alan and Ann showed up needing energy for thier doom tree to live. So they proceeded in draining the energy of the people of earth. However the "doom tree" really wasn't in need of energy, it wanted to be surrounded by love not hate. The sailor scouts were once again called back into action with the help of Luna and her lunar mind meld to bring back thier memories. Many silly adventures ensue as Alan and Ann disguise themselves as new students at Serena's school. After school Alan and Ann go back to stealing much needed energy and the sailor scouts are always there to stop them. Throughout the episode Alan and Ann discover the feelings of love, caring, friendship etc... which is completely new to them. Finally in the end confrontation with Sailor Moon they come to fully realize, with the help of thier tree, that peace love and caring is the way to go, and they go off with a newly hatched tree sprout to start a new life.
The scouts then get a short break before more evil from the Negaverse appears and a mysterious girl named Renee pops in from the sky. Renee proves to be a downright annoyance to Serena, and unbeknownst to either they are mother and daughter in the future. Renee spends most of her time trying to find the empryean silver crystal and Sailor Moon. The Negaverse appears this time in the form of four sisters who have been duped by Rubeus into working for him and the Wise Man to kidnap Renee and destroy Sailor Moon to ensure success in taking over the universe in the future. As each show progresses we find that maybe the four sisters don't really want to work for Rubeus and the Wise Man. Sailor Moon proceeds to heal each sister (each in seperate episodes), and Renee finds out Serena is Sailor Moon. However after all the sisters have been healed the threat of evil still remains.
Now we meet the rest of the Dark Moon's minions, which besides Rubius are Prince Dimand, who just so happens to be in love with Neo Queen Serenity (what Serena will become in the future), his brother Sapphiro, Esmeraude and the wiseman himself. A Heirarchy struggle ensues as Esmeraude vies for Dimand's place which ends in the death of Dimands very loyal brother. Meanwhile the Sailor Scouts travel to the future to gather information and meet King Endymion (Darien's future self) and Sailor Pluto the gaurdian of time. The Wiseman manages to kidnap Renee and transforms her into the evil "Black Lady". While the Wiseman is kidnapping Renee to further the Dark Moon, Prince Dimand captures Serena in hopes to convince her to love him, but Serena holds on strongly to her love for Darien and in the end, impressed by her strength Dimand comes to her defense as the wiseman attacks her. Ultimatly he sacrifices his life for her, and the freed Serena is able to join with Darien to win Renee back from the dark side with their love. When Renee turns back to good she and Serena in moon princess form combine thier powers and destroy the Wiseman. And this is the end of the R series.
When Darien was a young boy his parents were killed in a terrible car accident, while he survived alone. Shortly afterward while he was in the hospital he befriended a stranded alien named Fiore. Fiore eventually leaves and Darien gives him a single red rose as a token of their friendship. Fiore vows one day to return with the most beautiful flower to give to Darien in return. Years later Fiore seeks Darien out in order to give him the Kisenian flower, an exquisite but terribly evil flower. With his emotions distorted by the Kisenian flowers evil Fiore jealously attacks Serena with the help of a small arsenal of the deadly flower. Darien comes to Serena's rescue and is injured by Fiores own hand while protecting Serena. Horrified by what he has done, Fiore takes the injured Darien away to heal on the asteroid that he and the Kisenian flower are traveling on. The Sailor Scouts promptly transport themselves to the asteroid, which Fiore has headed for earth to make the entire world into a garden of Kisenian flowers. The scouts all fight bravely against the many plant monsters, but Sailor Moon is left to face Fiore alone. When the wounded Darien struggles to help Serena Fiore is fueled by jealousy once more and unleashes his worst upon Serena. In the heat of the battle while clutching Serena's transformation locket Fiore becomes aware that it was Serena who so long ago gave Darien the rose which became Fiore's going away present. Shocked, Fiore dissappears and the asteroid begins to plunge to earth. Serena channels her power through her silver crystal with the help of the scouts and Darien to save them from certain death. When they all reach safety the crystal shatters and Serena falls over near death. Fiore then returns to give Darien the "Nectar of Life" which he uses with a kiss to restore Sailor Moon's life force
